St Kilda considering ex-Magpie McGough

Quote:
St Kilda has expressed interest in former Collingwood midfielder Mark McGough, who was delisted by the Magpies last week.

St Kilda recruiting manager John Beveridge last night confirmed that the Saints had been in contact with McGough's management and that the stocky stoppage specialist was in the mix to be selected in either the national or pre-season drafts.

"It's certainly fair to say there's some interest," Beveridge said. "We haven't discussed it in detail whether or not we might draft him."

Roos eye pair as draft picks

[quote]Caracella's union with Collingwood appears certain, with the player likely to set his price at between $200,000-$250,000 a season for two years. Barring a mishap, the Magpies will select him with the fourth choice in the December draft, with the clubs ahead of them - Richmond, Hawthorn and the Bulldogs - all seemingly out of the running for the skilful half-forward for financial and cap constraint reasons.

Mark McGough, who won the Anzac Medal as a 17-year-old in 2002, is most likely to become a Saint. McGough has nominated for Saturday's draft, and while other clubs have taken a look at him, St Kilda is considered most keen to acquire the stocky on-baller.[/.quote]

I'm sure McGough's "suicide bomb" passes will be keenly anticipated by Nick Reiwoldt, who could easily miss half a season of football in being crunched by 3 defenders waiting underneath one to land.
No doubt Fraser Gehrig will abuse McGough for his inacurracy, as he attempts to scoop up the half-volley at his feet, or watch the pass sail over his head, and in the worst case scenario, urinate on him at the next 1/4-time break.
This will be St.blunda's punishment for taking Heath Black and Gehrig out of our hands in previous trade years.

Oh yeah, imagine Gehrig on a lead and it sailing 5 ft to the left... it would get ugly.

And instead of Aussie Jones snagging the point that beat the Bears, how about Mcgough hitting the 3AW commentary team instead.

I'd like to believe you but reality mandates otherwise. I said Mccough would come back to haunt us but if playing for St Kilda, probably the best side next year, you can multiply that pain by 5 or so. His kicking will improve. the other thing people forget, is half of Buckley's and other top players' kicks out of a pack are just quick clearances forward with no aim - take a look at some replays. If that is useless then so were Keating's hammers forward from the ruck in the 03 grannie, and so is Brisbane's game plan.
I must admit I'm looking forward to seeing McC do well - except against Woods - even that might be grimly satisfying in a small way.

I agree with bokka that Goughy may come back to haunt us. He could really do a good job at St.Kilda, but don't be surprised if he replaces Joe Misiti at Essendon.

Would he get a game at St.Kilda?

Can you imagine the Rexism for that.. "And would you believe Possum McGough Whitlam has just hit big Rexy on the chest with a duck-for-cover junior giraffe kick which was intened for Gee-whiz Gehrig, Nick Revolt shake his head in dismay, and now the runner's coming out to say Possum old buddy - it's time to sit the pine for a while again - Ah yibeddy yibedda - see ya next quarter..."
