Post subject: Lions salary cap concessions to endReply with quote

Finally, the AFL has agreed to end the salary cap concession for Brisbane at the end of 2006. Sydneys has also been scrapped but replaced by a 7% cost of living allowance.

Lions chairman Graeme Downie expressed his club's disappointment with the decision. "I fear it will prove to actually disadvantage clubs like ours and Sydney," he said.

YA THINK? Shocked Shocked

Hang on, didnt the Lions argue the extra money was for development of the game and didnt help them??? How could taking it away be a disadvantage then?

A COLA is a much fairer way to go. Should have been done years ago. Now, when do Melbourne clubs get one? It's the 2nd most expensive place to live in in Oz, far more so than Perth, Adelaide or Brissy.

foxy, I commend you on your brilliant plan and its excellent execution.

The pressure brought to bear on the AFL was incredible.

Well done.

(Eddie also had a minor hand in it too just quietly).

Pity we cannot get retrospective flags for 02/03.

Oh, that's right Vic! The one the maggot umps stole from us in 2002 and the one we didn't bother turning up to contest in 2003.

The only problem I see with this though is reported in the Herald Sun...

"Demetriou said that the AFL Commission still retained the power to determine the TPP figure for the Swans and Lions, meaning that if either club again became uncompetitive, it could initiate a new allowance top help the clubs attract quality players."

So I read that to mean that if the Lions take their medicine and get their turn at the bottom of the ladder like every other team (which is why the draft is the way it is - correct me if i'm wrong) then the AFL will boost some extra cash in to the cap for them to get them back up the ladder ?
Reeks of dodgy if you ask me !

They whinge about there not being enough of a "homecoming" factor for Queensland - is it just me or do they actually have an advantage in this area?

I mean, if a Brisbane player wants to come home to Victoria, 10 clubs have to compete for him. If a Collingwood player wants to go home to Brisbane, the Lions either get him, or don't want him. We saw that this year with Stenglein and Carr going home to Western Australia - and the two WA clubs divvying up the spoils.

Also, how shocking have the last two years been? The AFL is reversing a decision that was surely the difference in the 2002 GF (salary cap), and just now overhauling the tribunal process that really stuffed us the last few years as well. Good work, AFL, but do you take your freakin time or what?
