Shame really, almost half his career as a Roo. If someone said you would get rid of a top 10 all time goal kicker, half way through his career, people would say you had rocks in your head.

Ironic then that St.Kilda would off load Plugger who was going to be a Magpie up until the very last minute, only for 'supercoach' Leigh deciding not to in fear of upsetting Sav's development

It was not Leigh, it was Wayne Richardson and a couple of other committee members that thought that. McAllister and Leigh wanted Plugger, big time.

I think McAllister was qouted in saying that he should have overuled the board on that occassion.

Champion forward...Much better than Thompson and he doesnt wanna kill himself half the time either! Too bad the Roo's didnt see it fit to play their best forward more often.

But I guess he will be able to buy the club after his first NFL contract anyway...Look out Roos haha

Wayne Richardson's motive was obvious why he didnt want Plugger.Might have something to do with his son (Mark) fighting for a spot in the forwardline at the time.Should be a coaching staff decision not a bloody board decision on recruiting of players. The board was to clicky back then and the prestige of being on the board was more important then winning.Had greats of the club on the board instead of business people.Todays set up alot better.

Gee it'd be nice to have retained him. One of the most underrated of the past 20 years. How will history remember him? Hopefully as a player who was one of the best of his kind.

He could (should he wish) go on next year, and still kick 35-40 goals, judging on his Port Adelaide efforts.

If he kicks a couple of bag's he'll be better than Lloyd.... Shocked

Seriously though, look at all the names above him - they are legends of the game - for a bloke canned so often, he's done ok, hasnt he?!!?!?!

I think people forget how bad his form was when we got rid of him. Malthouse was playing Brent Tuckey!! at full forward because Sav was not getting the ball. Also Matthews was playing Jason McCartney at full forward because of Sav's erratic form.
Also I remember all those times that Silvagni and Dunkley would rebound from fullback as if the ball was kicked straight to them. It was felt that we could play only one Rocca in the side and Anthony was more versatile.
We had a better full forward in 1990 and he didn't even make the grand final side.
But Sav did make the most of his second chance and for that he is to be congratulated.
