Dave I respectfully suggest that you expand the options to include Window XP, Windows Vista and other (for the geeks who run an obscure OS).

For a math processor, I use Abacus.

For a text editor, I use Quill (with Ink as an add-on).

For image editing, I use Crayola.

I am just about to upgrade to that. Trouble is, no one accepts those 5.25 inch disks anymore. Wink

Vista here too....all of the above.

First install was in January 2007 (right on release)...if you dont count a beta test of when it was still Longhorn.

Plagued with problems. Random restarts etc...but apparently all due to the complete lack of driver support.

Hardly MS's fault though, hardware manufacturers knew Vista was on the cards years in advance....beta versions were out months in advance. The RTM release was also quite early...and finally, some home-built drivers were available based either on beta or pirate releases...so companies like nvidia really have no good excuse.

Second install was a few months back. Has been great. Is a definite memory hog, but on any machine worth using its not noticeable, and it looks nice and pretty. You get addicted to those sidebar gadgets pretty quick (despite thinking their idiotic at first) and the new method of Alt-tabbing is great.

Bullshit!

Why are there so many reports of old hardware not being compatible with Vista? M$ have recently been found to have released Vista knowing that most older peripherals would not be compatible, and thus, forcing users to either purchase new peripherals, or as most have done, return to XP.

Here's an idea. Google 'Vista complaints' and see how many results you get (about 434,000 pages), or 'vista problems' (about 816,000 pages).

No need to mention the lack of security with Vista, as that is already a well documented problem.
