If he is gay, I don't think there'll be many people who're surprised.

Considering he's only a young bloke still and has basically grown up in the spotlight, good luck to him which ever way he bats if he's decided he's comfortable with that.

good on him.

must love long distance realtionships.

wouldnt surprise me if it was a guy. if it was a girl he would of said it by now in that statement, but the fact that he has not suggests even more it could be a guy.

if he is happy good luck to him

Ya know Dave that attitude is un called for in this day and age.

Bullshit! it's nobody else's business except his and whoever it is he chooses to be in a relationship with.

Why is it so important for people to know other people's sexuality.

Nobody goes around saying..........OMG.....so and so is a heterosexual

who the flip cares!

True it is, but that line "his business no-one else's" just encourages people to stay in the closet rather than come out. Those stereo typical 5 words can come across as words of derision rather than support, LD if you didn't mean them as derision I hope you can accept/understand that statement could be taken either way.

Tess, it's NOBODY'S BUSINESS BUT HIS!

Why is it so important to you? there's more important things about a person than their sexuality!

Anyone who is in the media spotlight and seeks financial reward is owned by the media and in return the media make a huge profit from the likes of those who buy magazines and newspapers. It's systematic.

Much more important things, but he's damned either way.

I personally couldn't care and agree that it's his business but because he's "public property" as opposed to Jo average; and there has been questions raised by the media since he was 15, he's stuffed. The Gay and Lesbian brigade will label him a sell out until he comes out of the closet (even if he was never in there to start with).

Smartest move would be to announce he's gay, show some random mate as being the boyfriend, and then set about working through all the chicks who want to "convert" him. Cool

I'm told acting gay in a straight club is a guarentee to picking up chicks.

I'm with Tess on this one. I think it's important that queer-identifying people feel proud about who they are, and if a celebrity is using public spotlight to assist others to do that then s/he should be encouraged.

To put it another way:

The reason it it does matter that he is gay is that gay people are still oppressed, and so as a celeb he is in a position to be part of the movement fighting to end it.

Unfortunately we can't just ignore oppression out of existence.

Sorry Tess but that is about the biggest load of crap I have heard in quite a long time.

A persons sexual persuasion is and always be their own business and no one else's. It is a person like yourself and others who continually question, harp on about and intrude into their personal lifestyle choices that force people such as Ian Thorpe to become more reclusive than upfront about their choices for fear that if he does choose to live his life that way that once revealed it is then put upon him to be some sort of spokesperson or "Icon" for the Gay Community.

I would be more inclined to think that allowing a person to just be themselves and allow them to follow their own time lines on when they may choose to, or not to publicly declare that they prefer a homosexual lifestyle is much better than continual harassment, rumors, innuendo & gossip to basically force them to "out" themselves (out themselves...what a disgusting and discriminatory statement that is!) just for the gratification of some person to say "I told you so!"

If he is sexual persuasion has inclination towards the same sex then I whole heartedly agree with LD when he says "his business no-one else's" to claim that it can be taken any other way implicates that it is yours, mine or anyone else's business other than who he chooses himself to inform...and it is now and never will be the case!

Cheers
