But Mark Erwin, senior vice-president of Continental Airlines, said services would be the last thing to disappear on his airline.

"Continental believes in delivering a higher level of service," he said "One of the reasons we receive such high marks from the consumer is that we focus on blankets and pillows and in-flight entertainment and meals at meal times and priority offerings for our elite customers.

"We believe you have to invest in the consumer to keep them."

possibly in a similar vain of the other rant type threads, what are some of the better or worse customer service experiences you've had?

Optus has appalling customer service. Still, that generally tends to happen when your 'local' call centre in based in Mumbai.

or not. they do have some sites in melbourne. customer service is dependant on whether the service provider is outsourced or inhouse. more often than not the outsourcer will focus less on the customer service side of things.

Yesterday I wanted a curry puff and I waited and waited and waited while the guy behind the counter talked and laughed with his mate. Meanwhile, the other guy serving behind the counter assumed the lazy guy would serve me and I just stood there waiting. Eventually I had to practically yell out "AHEM - DOES ANYONE WORK HERE???" - the lazy guy KEPT TALKING, can you believe it? The other guy had to come and serve me.. Lucky the curry puff tasted good because I would have cracked it!

If you ring the 24/7 Optus call centre at 2.30am, do you honestly expect to get a Melbourne based operator? When I had reason to, I actually asked the operator where he was based, and he said Mumbai.

He really didn't want to know about my internet problem (related to a phone system upgrade that went bad), and suggested I take my whole pc to a neighbours house and test it on their non-Optus phone line. WTF!

I was wondering the same thing. And who's gonna knock on their neighbours door at that time of the morning asking if they can plug in their pc? That's crazy..

There's this small pizza place in the food court near where I work... half the time I go there, you almost have to yell to get the attention of the girls who work there... they're always surfing facebook with their backs to the counter (why a small pizza shop/cafe even needs an internet connection in the first place is beyond me). It kind of makes me nostalgic for those little bells that you'd ring to get the shop assistant's attention Razz

Well if he did, I'm glad he told me they're missing rather than slipping them back into my laundry bag,

yes, imagine your socks being washed in a 'new detergent' or something.
