I have been to both, the exorbitant fees charged by Private is no guarantee of a better education in my view. It also depends on the child. What is your view? |

Quite true, I've been to public and privates schools and have found them to equally good and bad.
Though it is interesting to note that if your vying for a job with another person and have exactly the same qualifications / educations levels and you have on your CV you went to a private school your more likely to get the job. _________________ A Collingwood supporter since the egg was inseminated. |

I went to a public school, and while I think some Private schools can help children, others are pretty pathetic. The school I went to isn't exactly regarded as elite, and the smart kids did okay regardless.
I think if a child is smart enough, and doesn't fall in with the wrong crowds, then they'll do okay regardless. |

Top schools lagging on reading, writing tests
"SOME of Victoria's most prestigious schools are underperforming on national reading and writing tests when compared with similar schools, according to the Federal Government's controversial My School website.
Mount Scopus College, whose students topped the state in the VCE last year, performed below average compared with similar schools on year 7 reading tests and year 9 reading and spelling tests.
Elite private school Geelong Grammar - which charges almost $28,000 to put a student through year 12 - performed ''substantially'' below similar schools in grade 3 spelling at its Toorak campus." _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

I am more inclined to employ someone who has actually worked whilst at school rather than where they went too. |

I went to an all girls public school that was run like a private school and it did nothing for me!
Left with an enter score that was one of the lowest in the school's history, mainly because I was put in the too hard basket. |

It all depends on the attitude of the kids/parents and even friends they hang around with.
I wants too a pubic skool and it done me good no help... Thanks Kingsbury Tech...
I was friends with kids that went to both private and public schools, one of the private school guys is working at a mobile souvlaki van... WINNER!
Thanks Parade College... |

very much depends on the child and in my day everyone was treated the same.
i went to private schools but that was because my parents were willing to make a huge sacrifice rather than having been born with a silver spoon in my mouth. i wanted to leave but they wouldn't let me. i suppose that had much to do with the loss of revenue more than doing the right thing by me. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

I think I'd rather send my kids to a public school - firstly, I don't agree with the idea of single-sex schools (although I realise that not all private schools are like that), and secondly, I will probably never be able to afford a private school anyway. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Its amazing how many parents will take out a loan or second mortgage and put themselves in financial difficulties to send their kid/s to a private school hoping to get it paid back at some stage....

the main difference in high schools, in to in the way of teaching, the Private schools give more attenttion and get better grades, public schools get you ready for uni by letting you be on you own. _________________ Dane Swan- The DT PIG |

I went to a public school in the country, had the option of going to a few good private schools in the city via scholarships that i sat tests for after primary school but decided against it, didn't really want to leave my friends and family.
I did pretty well though with class sizes and teacher contact time.
English - 25 students (pretty much my entire year 12 class)
English Lit - 6 students
Maths Methods - 8 Students
Specialist Maths - 2 Students
Chemistry - 4 Students
Psychology - 20 students.
I know that is a pretty rare situation but i doubt i would have got a better ENTER going to Caulfield Grammar or Scotch etc.
I don't think i'd send my child to a public school in the city, too much chance of being lost in mass of students and not receiving enough attention. Hopefully by the time i have to worry about it i'll be back in the country running a pub somewhere so i can just send them to the local public school. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars...the rest I just squandered." - George Best |
