As the title says, it's about David Hale, and considering his now at Hawthorn, it's a bit out of place on these forums. However I wanted everyones opinion on why Hawthorn wanted him.

As far as I know his mainly a tall forward and/or Ruckman, so will he be their second, or even first Ruck? Or are they going to go with three tall forwards, or perhaps even use Roughead in the Ruck?

Wade skipper & now David Hale.
I just don't understand their way of thinking at Hawk land.

Mhmm, I think (and also hope) they've made a rather large mistake with this one. North doesn't even have a tall forward as I can recall, at least not one that makes an impact, so if they weren't playing Hale.... Well it doesn't say much for him.

But surely there is some reason behind their thinking.

Hale's a good pickup if he gets fit. Can play ruck and forward. Takes some pressure of Roughead, who could even go back. Would be something similar to L.Brown for us.

He was a good player when going for the Roos, has just struggled with injuries. Would make the Hawks very dangerous up forward were he to regain touch. Could even be their first ruck I suppose. They still don't have much of quality there.

Their L Brown, minus any physical presence. Trade up on Skipper who is actually a good ruckman for a bloke who's the size of a ruck rover but couldn't play anywhere else. Needed to be 15cm taller to compensate for his lack of flexibility.

Hale is OK. Roos were playing 3 rucks at different times, he couldn't get a gig but he will.

It's not easy at all.
Here is the similarity.
Skipper was crap & the dogs knew it.
Hale is crap & the kangas know it.
Again I ask wtf are the hawks thinking?
If you can't recruit a decent ruckman then you may as well stick with what you have now. Hale is a battler at best.

The ruck department was their weakness. I think they did well to get Hale.

The question is, can he go with Jolly?

I've been told by a very good source at the hawks that roughead will train all preseason in the backline.

The reason behind Hale was the new ruck rule. They needed their second ruck to have another string to his bow.

Hale will be a better player at Hawthorn. How much better is the question we will find out.

With the new substitute rule coming into effect next season the days of two genuine ruckmen being selected in the 22 are gone.

I doubt we'll ever see Jolly and Wood in the same 22 together from here on out and sides will look to play with a setup the same as our own in 2010.

Unlike some I believe Hale has talent he just needs to hope his body stays sound.

If it does I think he'll be a good pick up for the Hawks as he has the size to play as a No.1 ruckman and the ability to go forward and kick goals.

They lack quality talls, ...that can kick straight.

Jack may end-up swapping his B/W for brown and gold. Uuuurk!
