Forget about forward presses, rolling zones and Riewoldt suffering an unfortunate 'accident' just prior to the game. We can take the premiership with a little bit of Sheedy style outside of the square thinking.

It strikes me that all we need to do to win the premiership (or any other game for that matter) is make sure we score higher than the opposition does. So, this is what we do.

Instead of spreading out to the usual positions prior to the first bounce, put all 18 players up close to the centre square. The opposition will have only five or six players within a few seconds range of that area. The moment the ball touches the ground, two hard, strong players (per opponent) immediately tackles every opposition player in the area and bring them to ground. Get one of our talls up - Jolly, it's what he does anyway - to tap the ball to one of three of four quick players. Once we posess the ball, we form what I and the media will call the Collingwood Wall. Every magpie that doesn't have the ball is to encircle the carrier, two or three players thick. Using this shield we charge towards the goal. Any opponent who tries to get to the ball will be shepherded away by the Collingwood wall. Once we are two meters from the goal line (just to be sure we don't spray it) we kick a goal, or a behind, and we take the lead.

Once we have taken the lead, we split the team into two groups centred around two accurate kicks. Win the ball again, and keep possession by kicking back and forth between these two players, whilst everyone else maintains two Collingwood Walls around them.

It's a boring tactic, but it will work.

I like Joffa's Idea.

In all seriousness, though, if we make the granny, i would expect multiple suspensions to begin the 2011 season.

We need to assert some authority from the first bounce physically.

When I first read 'Sheedy tactic', I thought you were going to suggest going the biff! Only reason why people like Dean Wallis and Mark Johnson were actually on Essendon's list, just snipe out the opposition's best players.....

Watching the Box Hill v Port Melbourne VFL game on channel 2, a Port bloke got sent off for throwing the elbow out, which was his 2nd reportable offence in the game! So perhaps the biff may not be allowed Smile

Like to see an umpire send a bloke off in the granny though!

But in all seriousness, we have the talent, just need them to fire as one on PF & GF day!

Maybe we could win the game if we just kept the ball away from the opposition.

You want more?

Why post crap about Collingwood needing to bash the shit out of it's opposition to win a final?

We'll beat'em and we'll do it with our brilliant footy skills!

(BMW Joffe, King-hitting ANYONE is NOT a joking matter!)

We've won 18 games now for the year....having only lost 1 (dead rubber) game in the 2nd half of the year.

We finished first.

We beat both of last years grand finallists.

I reckon we keep doing what we've been doing.

Ahhh Nick my fellow Stone Monkey....... no need to be that elaborate with your tactics.
GJust give the ball to the sacred boy-priest Tripitaka, and nobody will be able to touch him, as he is under the protection of the Buddha & his disciples.....LOL
