G'day all, with all the Great history of our club, which number would have the heaviest burden?

Past History would have suggested Number 1 with the captan given that honour up until about 1979 when Ray Shaw decided to keep his own number 23.(I could be wrong, but I think that is the case). It was a breaking of tradition. In the very early days, No 1 would belong to the captain, number 2 the V.Captain and the rest would be dished out alphabetically, meaning new players, retirements and captain changes could see a player change his number from year to year.

I believe now though, given the performances of our great leader, number 5 will be almost impossible to adequately fill in the future.
A couple of recent players:
Presti has performed admirably with the 35 guernsey, but there was only one Daics.
Rhys Shaw has a long, long, long, almost inforseeable way to travel to get anywhere near his uncle's no 22 worthiness.
Ben Johnson looks like he'll do Rowdy some justice in the 26.

If they ever "unretire" 42, this number will definitely carry the greatest burden, without a doubt. If not, I seem to agree with BJ that any future no 5 after the mighty Bucks will have to be an absolute bloody gun.

I doubt they will ever unretire 42 for two reasons. One in respect to Millane and two that there are fewer than 42 players on a list these days.

Definitely 42 carries the biggest burden and i doubt they will ever use that number again out of respect.

Number 5 will certainly be a hard act to follow. But maybe Nathan Jnr. can fill them shoes in 18 years or so .

Agreed No. 42 will probably RIP.

BJ I think you'd be right there, Ricky Braham would have had number 1 after that from memory. Bugger it, just checked and it is right. Would you believe Monkey wore the No. 1 longer than any other player, 11 years.

I reckon Benny Johnson's got a big load to carry wearing 26. As has Presti with 35. 2 of our club's absolute champions!

Didn't Betheras start his career wearing NO.49, that would have weighed down the little bloke!!!
Seriously though, I agree with No.5 and NO.35, they will never use No.42 again. My opinion rates NO.30, Peter MOORE and 'Charlie' MANSON will be hard to follow, do you know if it is being used currently?
