Time to let Gays suffer like the rest of us. They can be unhappy too. Very Happy
Seriously, pass the law Dulia. A concious vote? Come on, homophonia is dead and buried. All Polls point to a victory for gay marraige.

No resaon not to deny the gay couples the same rights as normal hetrosexuals - kids needs loving and caring parents to set them on the correct path in life.

Marriage - ???

At the same time I believe that they should have the same legal rights as all other couples.

I still haven't resolved in my own mind the validity of gays adopting children. On one hand I think many gay couples would make very loving and good parents. At the same time if I had the choice between a quality heterosexual couple and a gay couple wanting to adopt a child I would probably err and learn more towards the heterosexual couple.

Ban "straight" divorce and we'll see who really wants to get married.

Exactly. A conscience vote is a massive cop out. I note they did nothing of the kind for, say, the carbon tax, or any other policy. The ALP just don't have the intestinal fortitude.

Anyway, at least we'll get to see exactly how out of touch the major parties are with contemporary Australian society. 60-odd percent of Australians support same-sex marriage; how many Labor and Coalition MPs do? I'm tipping 30% at best.

while i dont understand WHY gays want, nay, need to get married... i dont see any reason to not recognise their right to it.

but the whole argument to me sounds like "they have it why cant we have it too". if two gay individuals love each other how is the states recognition (i'm not getting into tax and other benefits etc) and a piece of paper affect that?

marriage is an antiquated concept anyways and should be rid of

wheres tanning when you need him Sad

If I had a choice I'd meet both couples and decide on the merits. Yes having hetero couple versus gay couple would play a small factor in your decision, but as you said many gap couples would make much much better parents than straight ones.

I had a really big argument about this with an ex. She was of the belief that biologically, psychologically, logically and horizontally (?) there is no way a gay couple raising a child can be a good thing. It made me realise how £$%$ed up she really is.

It's a much bigger issue than that K. Imagine you spent 20 years with some-one, they die and your partners family decide they don't want you to have anything to do with the funeral, the family wants you out of the home you've lived in for the last 20 y. etc. Your screwed and have little legal comeback. Gay marriage is nessesary and is a human rights issue.
A piece of paper can rectify that!

B.t.b.. If two people want to get married what has their sex to with it?
