Willy Match report,thank's to Dave

Williamstown extracted some revenge over Essendon to defeat them in windy conditions at Point Gellibrand. Williamstown took Essendon's spot in the final eight and will play finals if they defeat Carlton next week. May still play finals if they lose but two of Coburg, Port Melbourne and Essendon must lose also next week.

Adkins started forward and didn't see much of the ball. Spent the next two quarters on the bench. Came back on in the last quarter and played midfield. Got a bit of the ball but disposal was poor and does not seem able to turn when at full pace. Definitely not 100%.

Richardson started at CHB and was solid. Went to CHF in the second half but drifted out of the game. Ran out the game well.

Didak played very well. Played in the backline to improve his accountability. The problem at this level is he is so good the opposition virtually tag him in the back half making the accountability side of his game much easier. As noted in previous weeks he again was reluctant to use his right foot despite having no problems earlier in the year. Also seems to suffer from the same problem Buckley has in the seniors in that players will dish off to him even when he is under pressure.

Betheras played mostly in the back half and wing. Was one of the best and his disposal was good. Kicked the first goal of the match from a great snap. Had Moorcroft for some time and thrashed him.

McKee was best on ground. Played his best match at this level for the year. His ruck work was 50/50 with some decisive taps to occasions when he misread the bounce to such an extent he was virtually a spectator. But he played on the ball for 4 quarters and his around the ground work was excellent. Took a stack of marks and his work on the deck was great. Even his disposal was good.

Ukovic played on Blumfield and probably broke even which was a good result. Didn't get much of the ball but was good defensively. With the emergence of Lonie and recruiting of Clement his days appear numbered.

Tuckey again led and marked well. Played in the forward line. Has been very consistent this year. There was a rumour at the ground that after last weeks match against Werribee the Bulldogs made enquires about Tuckey's availability for next year with Mark Alvey mentioned. While Alvey wouldn't give Collingwood much, if true, it does appear Tuckey may have some limited trade value.

Shaw started on the interchange and came on into the back half. Provided a lot of run after half time especially in the last quarter. No turnover errors come to mind and played OK.

Johnson started midfield and then went to half back on Michael Long. Was fantastic on Long. Attacked him physically and ran him off his feet. Long got very rattled in the third quarter. Made one huge error when he passed backwards from the back pocket to the goal square with a lollipop kick which was picked off by Essendon.

Scotland was one of the best. Attacked the ball hard and won a lot of contested ball. Is nowhere near the receiver he was at the start of the year and wins his own ball now.

Stone played well. Played HB and I couldn't remember a time he at least didn't break even in a contest. Took a few marks and disposal was improved. The problem is he is playing on opponents much smaller than himself. When given the second best forward he is exposed. He has great endurance. Because of his size it would be good to persevere with him but on a list of 38 that may not be possible.

Cloke played in the forwardline. Took a lot more marks than in previous weeks and his kicking for goal was excellent. Caught a few Essendon players with some bone breaking tackles. One of the best.

Sheehan played in the midfield and was good. Looks a handy player at this level and it would good if Willi could retain him after Collingwood flick him.

Hill was solid rather than good. Played across half forward and presented himself often but the marks weren't sticking. Kicked a great goal.

Lovett-Murray came of the bench and played forward. Was OK but his lack of a left side was exposed on a couple of occasions.

The Willi reserves also won but kicked something like 26 behinds. Baynes played in the backline and was mostly unmarked for the entire game. Wasley played in the forward line and kicked a few. His goal kicking was good but even at this level some of his field kicking was shocking. Both players appear to be heading for delistment.
O'Dell played half back and hasn't improved since the start of the year. Heath played full forward and took a few big grabs. Kicked some goals but his work ethic defensively was poor. Rode did not play.

Just as an odd spot. Terry Daniher arrived for the game after half time in the reserves carrying a white board with messages on it for the team. It was in plain view for everyone to see. The last message was 'Expose Troy West'. This of course was relayed to the Willi team, which gave them and Troy a little bit more ammo for the game.

I love these match reports from the VFL games. It's great to find out who is playing well in the two's. Keep up the good work.

PS. Message to Malthouse. Please give Scotland a run in the seniors against Carlscum. He is in the best every week.

Thanks for the report it was great (except for the part about Wasley!). I was really annoyed I couldn't get to see the game, but now I feel like I was there.

The wait is almost over.

Thanks for the report! Looks like Willy should make finals!!
Just reading about Chippa, I'm thinking he's got a recurrence of his osteitis pubis, or he's still got a twinge there that hasn't gone away. I've got that same injury and have had for almost a year. If he's not turning as he should be, it sounds like he's still affected. It usually affects your sideways movement, your sprinting, jumping and kicking. His kicking skills may be off cos he can't kick thru the ball or at least doesn't have the confidence to. It's an injury where everything can feel so good except this one little area of your body. It's very frustrating!!
I think Adkins is real talent, and should only be used as atrade for an absolute gun. What he needs is some rest, and shouldn't start pre-season till he feels no pain whatsoever, cos it's an injury that just won't thuck off.
Great to read most of the fringe players played well, especially Rupert!!
