If the Caff is out for the year that is a big blow to our premiership chances. His form in 2010 was superb and was the x factor in the forward line. We missed him in an injury plagued 2011. Retaining him and forcing Leon off the list when both were vying for that final spot on the list is costly - as both are out for 2012.

I hope by some minor miracle it isn't an ACL but all reports so far say it is...

I think Young could be a straight replacement for the Caff. Strong body, similar assets.

It's Buckley's fault. Damn GWS.

(Players name is Buckely who took at his legs)

A big loss.

Edit

Don't know where I got that from Embarassed

Wrong team & wrong player Embarassed

Footiscray & Howard I think was the damn player. Howard was always a wrecker Laughing

On the upside yes, was thinking about this early this morning.

Macca was a top goal kicker for Gippsland. Lets hope Young takes his opportunity. Nice to have a strongly built player.

Ugle & Blair in forward pockets.

Lets not get too pessimistic about the Caff. It was a sideways buckle. Farnklins looked worse than that and he missed one week IIRC.

Unlikely to be a knee reco (although anything is possible) so at best it's an ugly looking strain.

Mick Malthouse @mickmalthouse

Great to see some close games during the NAB Cup. Good win by the Pies boys, I hope Caff's leg is alright.

It's worth pointing out that that isn't what happened at all. Leon Davis always had a contract offer, he was certainly never forced out as a means of keeping Macaffer.

Len Davis retired, let's get that straight, and up to the point he retired there was still a contract on the table, and we weren't going to raise the amount in that contract no matter who left or stayed.

Macaffer getting injured is shattering, but it has absolutely nothing to do with Leon Davis, who chose to walk out on the club on his own accord, to return home to his family.

Now, if you were to mention the names Andrew Krakouer and Leon Davis in the same sentence, that may be more pertinent to our current situation, as they were like brothers (still are) and Leon leaving has made it harder for Krak to cope.

Leon chose to take a larger pay cut, after rejecting a smaller pay cut.
Wish he had not, but we now play without him and others will have to step up to fill the void left by him and Caff.
Nothing new in that, it's how footy has been played for over 100 years.

Leon was only ever going to get worse with age. He is not a key to us winning a Premiership in the next few years.

The Caff could be, but like the Sack, has never cemented a spot because of form / injury.

The Krakouer saga concerns me as he could very well be head case who walks out on the club.

Liam Pickering his manager was quite explicit yesterday morning on SEN & has been in the past. Leon left for family reasons. Once he went back to WA it would be almost impossible to get him back such are the family kinship ties (that bind). Pickering also said it was a struggle to get Leon on for 2011 because of the same reasons. Amongst other things the death of his nephew (to some hero) was a strong motivating force.

Yep 3-4 more of those injuries this year and we will get a rule change probably. Or 1 if its Judd.
