Perhaps - providing they are counting the barcodes from the number of scarves and jumpers sold at Kmart during grand final week, in the years dated 1996, 2005, 2006, 2012.
Other than that, scarce as rocking-horse shit.

Spot on - and I live in NSW and I can guarantee that if Sydney spent 2 years in the bottom 4, the "fans" would leave in droves. Very fickle lot. | Can you speak any foreign languages? What is living in NSW like living in NSW? Oh you can, can you? |
Mais oui, je parle le francais un petit peu. Et vous? |

In precisely the same way, it's likely that Sydney is full of "non-practising" Swan "supporters". Just like Melbourne is "full" of Melbourne Storm "fans" who only watch them when they are winning and could not imagine making the effort to go to the ground or pay to get into a game.
I would have thought that Sydney would have a huge, almost entirely passive following in the most populated city in Australia, most of whom have never seen a game live and would be unlikely to consider going to the ground.
The more interesting part of the reported result is that Collingwood get almost twice as many people to attend their games over a 12 month period as Hawthorn do. |
SPOT ON!
Of course Sydney would have a 'big fan base'. Before GWS entered the competition, they were the only NSW based team in the AFL. Your example of the Melbourne Storm is a good comparison to the Sydney Swans. The majority of NSW residents will say they support Sydney, but they wouldn't have a clue about the game, whereas they're obsessed with Rugby League in that state along with QLD. In Melbourne, the majority follow an AFL side, but only a minority truly follow the Storm. People have been asking me this week about the Storm and Bulldogs NRL Grand Final. I said I didn't have a clue about the match, but I would be supporting the Storm because they are the only Melbourne based side in the NRL.
Those statistics in this article are silly and don't paint a true reflection of how many true fans there are from the Sydney Swans as opposed to Collingwood. The poll only works for Victorians clubs as they consist of 10 clubs in the AFL and their is a diverse range of clubs. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |
