COLLINGWOOD veteran Ben Johnson will play his 14th season after agreeing to terms for a one-year deal.

Johnson had been nervously awaiting the club's decision on whether it could fit him into the salary cap.

But during the trade period he was assured of Collingwood's interest, and terms were now finalised.

This came as the Pies yesterday confirmed Andrew Krakouer and Brent Macaffer had also signed one-year deals.

Johnson recovered from a shoulder reconstruction after Round 6 to play the last five games of the year and prove he had fuel left in the tank.

The new veterans list helps Johnson out, with eligible players having pay of $112,000 excluded from the salary cap.

Collingwood completed an exceptional job in securing its stars this year despite the ongoing saga generated by Travis Cloke's contract.

Chris Tarrant retired post-season, with Darren Jolly on the final year of his four-season contract next year.

But while coach Nathan Buckley concedes there will be speculation about Dale Thomas' future given he becomes a free agent next year, the Pies have less stars out of contract next season.

The Pies have three first-round draft picks in next Thursday's national draft after forward Chris Dawes left for Melbourne and onballer Sharrod Wellingham departed for West Coast.

Hopefully this puts those Jason Gram rumours to bed.

Very happy with this.

At his best he's easily in our best 22, anything less and he's going to be playing VFL passing on lots of knowledge to the kids and putting pressure on senior players to perform to hold their places in the team.

Great news that Johnno is staying for another year. He's definitely been a Collingwood great. Hopefully he can get through 2013 without encountering injuries like he did this year.

He is a mgpie from birth, and playing out either with the 1st's or the 2nd's as a magpie just would great for him, black and white forever. Now that would be really exciting for a young magpie supporter who might make it to the big time. You kids out there what a dream to support and then play for the mighty pies.

And play a very important role in securing a Premiership!
