Well the AFL (the world's last bastion of Stalinism) is about to hit rich clubs like Collingood with an equalisation tax.

From Emma Quayle:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/poorer-afl-clubs-might-get-bigger-slice-of-pies-20130131-2dnn0.html

Why do we bother? I am heartily sick to death of propping up clubs like North Melbourne when good old Fitzroy were forced to the wall.

Time to consider a Super League and get rid of this nefarious AFL and Stalin (Dimmy).

If an equalization policy is enforced, that will be it for me. Won't renew my membership.

Good morning Mr Jack Spain.

My family fled Eastern bloc country to avoid such Communist systems and make a life for ourselves in your beautiful country.

If somebody work hard and earn money, why should big bosses distribute it to others who do not work as hard. Will AFL force local leagues to do same?

Ironically, no such dead-hand of socialism exists in my beloved Estonia.

Shame AFL shame...

I tell you what. I don't devote my time every month working for our great Club to know that my efforts would be partially wasted with the rewards of my expertise going to some other club I despise. A club is its supporters and members. We have the most devoted members and supporters. That's where our club power comes from. Our supporters, sign up, pay up and go to more games on average than any other club. Any other club can do the same thing if they really want to.

10% of wealth comes from hard work
90% is inherited.

The vast majority of the World's financial 'wealth' lies in property assets 'acquired' by colonialist invaders or missionary mercinaries.

spin, you can't blame this current regime for the demise of fitzroy. for all the alarmist, arms in the air, fist stamping reactions to this idea, how else do you propose to achieve an equalisation?

we have the salary cap, the draft, the fixture; all clubs have been funded to have a base level of administrative staff.

rather than take the "woe is collingwood" stance tell us what else can be done. would you prefer to see the demise of some clubs? you do know what that means for the competition, the "product" and future sustainability of an afl competition?

What sort of idiocy does it take to call this proposal "socialism"? Socialism is about restoring a just distribution of wealth to the many who create it (that's us); this proposal is about taxing the hardworking many (that's us) to enrich the lazy few (that's North Melbourne) - it is, in fact, a classic Liberal/conservative policy.

Disagree. With the likes of Melbourne and Port Adelaide and North, we owe them the respect of turning up to their funeral properly dressed and not laughing (much).

When we were on our knees in the mid-1980's, how much money did the then VFL give us to 'equalise' the competition????

That's right....jacksh*t.

they are happy to equalise the competition when we are out in front of the pack, but not when we are down on our knees.

Give them nothing.

does Coles tell Woolworths how to run their business? does the government step in and make woolworths give some of its profits to Coles?
our Clubs are competing businesses, they compete for the minds and hearts of supporters as well as the contents of their wallets, why should Collingwood or any other Club for that matter be penalised for their competitors mistakes and mismanagement, equalisation is fine on the field but off the field it is not, it stifles innovation and it rewards Clubs for mistakes, why even bother with membership drives and innovative revenue streams when all you have to do is sit there with your hand out for the money.
The AFL have dropped the ball here, they have over spent on introducing new Clubs and are now once again looking for money to prop up under performing and mismanaged Clubs.
We owe Competing Clubs nothing.

+1. I don’t pay my membership’s and donate money to the club, to prop up other teams. Maybe it’s about time we lost a few of the underperforming clubs so that we can go to a 14 team competition where everyone plays each other twice.

Harsh but fair. Only way to go.

I definitely dont want any of MY membership money to go towards propping up other under performing and badly managed clubs. Bugger that for a joke........ Evil or Very Mad
