Post subject: Witts breakout game? | |
|
Jarrod Witts K7 H5 D12 M7 HO8 - Source AFL.com.au
Very good game from Witts, took some great grabs in the first quarter and showed very good agility in ruck. would he hold his spot if Jolly came back now?? i would argue yes. Opinions? |

Must be deceptively quick on the lead. Remember watching the Bullants game on TV where he burned off Watson on the lead a couple of times and he did it again last night.
Likewise in that Bullants game he spotted up Paine a couple of times with pinpoint passes and he did it again last night with a great pass to Clokey.
Not sure if I would call it a breakout game, but is starting to look like he believes he should be out there and he is playing better because of it.
Will only improve the more games he gets under his belt. |

I think his breakout game was the week before when he had five shots at goal.
We are getting some really good game time into him.
Heard Jolly before the game last night and he suggested that he wants to play on next year, but that it will be upto the club to decide. This will be a key in Witts' further development next season. _________________ "There have been injuries and deaths in boxing, but none of them serious." (Alan Minter) |

Both Jolly & Dids have said they want to play on next year. I don't think either is a good idea for the club for 2014. Been great for us but I think their best is well & truly behind them. |

Already a better forward than Sandilands. Now for the rucking. _________________ Well done boys! |

As others have said every game he plays he looks more comfortable.
The leads and marks last night were good. His kick for goal didn't make the distance and then he does a good pass to Cloke.
He will get more consistent and I'm sure he will play the next two games.
The mark over Rutten was excellent.
I am looking forward to his future. _________________ go pies |

A lot better than Lynch was providing up forward before his injury - with plenty of improvement to come...
I think he needs Reid up there as well so he gets the 3rd backmen - but his ruck and marking has improved a lot this year so the signs are great for later this year and beyond! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

He is giving us more ATM than Lynch was, and still has heaps of room for improvement.
The forward setup works best Cloke, Witts and Reid all down there. I daresay Jolly will take his spot back when he's fit, but IMO Witts should stay in instead of Hudson. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

One thing he certainly did last night was make it very hard to lose his spot to Q when the latter is fit |

The development of Witts is what all Collingwood supporters are hoping for and whilst most of us have unrealistic expectations of him becoming the new improved version of Sandilands in his first season, the signs are very encouraging.
He seems to be getting better every week and I don't think there is any doubt he is providing a better option than Lynch was providing during the past 8 games that Lynch was playing.
No doubt opposition teams will try to run off Witts to expose his mobility and pace, but I am very optimistic that the mark he took over Rutten in the first quarter last night and subsequent goal will be a regular sight for the next decade.
I heard Jolly on the radio this week say he wanted to play on for another two years after this year. He would have to improve his form a lot in the remainder of this year to justify that given the potential of Witts and Grundy. At best I see Jolly being an insurance back-up in 2014 given recent history of injury and form. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |

Witts is not yet ready to take over from Jolly. He is showing great promise, but he will need to be eased into the role during the 2014 season. _________________ Be Staunch, Be Proud, Be Collingwood |

Witts has a lot to learn about defending the goal line when someone else is having a shot. Was very poor on a few occasions last night allowing marks on the goal line / square and uncontested rushed behind. He'll learn from the review though. Other signs good.
