Quote:

RICHMOND has told firebrand forward Jake King to end an association with Bandidos boss Toby Mitchell.

King invited Mitchell into the Richmond rooms at the MCG while sidelined with injury after the Round 20 win over Brisbane.

The club was quickly made aware of the bikie enforcer's presence on the day and later told King the association was totally unacceptable.

i guess they are impinging on king's rights to associate with whom he chooses. Rolling Eyes

defend this one, david.

Mitchell gave him a PeeWee 50 for the free entry!

Makes a lot of sense bikers do have very high standards.
The MCG rooms are filled with lawyers, bankers , property developers and other criminal types.

What's there to defend? Ever heard of the phrase 'guilt by association'? There's only a problem here if you think that AFL players should be held to a higher level of account than the rest of the population.

I think the problem here lies with the people who can see the PR implications of the "AFL star's link with organised crime" headline but won't critically engage with the issue on any deeper level. Many of those sorts of people, unsurprisingly, tend to populate club and football league boards, but it's sad when the general public begin to adopt their world view.

Do you think they're not?

Now the AFL clubs want to choose their players' friends for them?

This is madness....

Not a mob anyone wants to be hanging out with unless they're looking for trouble.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandidos_Motorcycle_Club

These groups actively seek out high profile people to give them an air of legitimacy. Absolutely right to warn King off.

It's too late to stop him being associated with them, it's in his bloodlines.

There has been two attempts on his life.

Not hard to guess why.

Wouldn't want him or any of his kind around my club or it's players.

Let me get this straight: I wouldn't want to be associated with people like that, and I'd happily advise friends or family members to stay away (doesn't mean they'd have to take my advice, of course!). But what am I supposed to say to some random guy who happens to wear a yellow and black jumper and appears on the TV now and then? He's an adult who can make his own mistakes.

But if he's not a random guy and works for you?

Well, I guess we get back to this old chestnut of employees' personal lives. The way I see it, there are three options: a) mind your own business and leave them to their own lives; b) express your concern but accept that it's their choice at the end of the day to do what they like; or c) try to enforce your own moral view of the world by forcing employees to stop hanging out with 'unsavoury' types, like they do in Scientology.

I'd go a), but I think b) is also fairly reasonable. I think you can guess what I think of c).

OK, so say you were put in charge of that video shop you worked for and hired someone who had bandido friends. They'd come in the shop to say G'Day to him and frighten your other customers. You can draw the rest of the picture

is C suddenly looking more palatable?

David would have a right to ask his employee to please ask your mates not to come in while he's working (unless they're paying customers then that would be against the law. (thanks to my anti-discrimination course I did this week!)).

But he would have absolutely no right to tell his employee he couldn't play with them in his own time. And neither he should.
