Collingwood cheer squad held a meeting today and apparently their squad is no longer making and holding up run-through banners anymore and the club is organising it. Also for interstate games they can go but will not sit with the cheer squad which will instead be made up of interstate Collingwood fans and in Victoria designated seating will now be rotated a few times a year… What are your thoughts on this? My opinion is the seat rotation and interstate games thing, although annoying for some is about being fair and trying to include as many people as they can, having the club do the banners professionally though I think is a bit stupid and sad for the Magpie Army members who now won't be doing it.

This was on FB tonight does anyone know anything about it?

Something needs to be done with the fans sitting in ponsford.. It's such a great area to make a massive statement and crowd intimidation even in a family friendly way.

Anyone who went to the final last year will remember how sensational the power fans sang and danced and waved there massive over sized flags even during the breaks. It was very impressive.

Collingwood need to organize the ponsford stand with flags or all black shirts which would look great as other sports around the world do.

Cheer squads might be outdated that's our chance to create a new scene for the fans which will look great on tv and inspire the players (hopefully)

The banners, the club has been giving the cheer squad the wording and everything for a while. All the cheer squad did was put it together.

I personally never understood how it was enjoyable to do especially when you got to put 0 flair into it.

To be honest, it's one big advertising banner now anyway. Shame.

It is on Facebook, unattributed, so it must be right.

That would be why I posted it here to see if it has any currency.

I had a chat to a mate who is part of the cheersquad and was there last night with a poultry 60 out of the 200 members. He said that was a perfect example of what the problem is as last night was a compulsory meeting and only a little over 25% of the membership bothered to turn up.

The cheersquad membership now also includes Social Club membership so I wonder does that mean Legends membership as the price is about the same with all H&A games with reserved seats.

Nothing was explained about the banners apart from it's been taken away from the usual few who did it.

the cheer squad membership is a legends membership. i was in the cs for a few years and never paid any less than a full adult membership.

60 people attending is good in the context of previous attendances to things like season launches.

Let the club organise their corporate banner.

I would like the cheer squad to organise flares!

I think it is time for our Cheer Squad to go. They have become weak and increasingly irrelevant. I want to see a new Cheer Squad headed by Joffa. I want it subsidised by the Club with all its members given prime behind the goals seats, free transport to games, meals, drinks, and a special room at each ground to prepare. Enough of the Club not really backing our Cheer squad with some grunt and cash. We can't have a half pregnant Cheer Squad. I will stand up to run the New Magpies Cheer Squad but will not be muzzled by the Club. We will be foul, aggressive, intolerant of other Clubs, physical, boozed; and very ugly. A force to be reckoned with.

let's put bertha down behind the ponny end goals. a one person cheer squad. it will solve a few problems like filling the empty seats, more noise emanating from the area and we could fit that many sponsors logos on her we would be filthy rich.
