Post subject: Ticketing Information for the Carlton Match?Reply with quote

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get a ticket for a mate this Friday night against Carlton, preferably in the Ponsford end and it's not allowing me to choose which area I want to sit in on Ticketek. It's only giving me 'categories' of seating and I'm always getting Olympic Stand or Southern Stand seating when attempting to obtain a seat.

Does anyone know whether buying a ticket where the seat is located in the Southern Stand and Olympic Stand for example will still scan successfully if you were to enter the Ponsford End (gate 1) on Friday?

It might be just me but I have a feeling that more Ponsford stand tickets will be available during the week as we've seen in previous occasions. My mate just wants to stand with me at the back of the Ponsford end so he's not fussed about seating.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Can you buy General admission or is it just selling reserved seats?

For the Richmond, game my sister rang Ticketek and was able to get better seats than what came up on the website (she wasn't fussed which stand just wanted to be up on level 2 or 3 near the front as she was taking kids).

It's just selling reserved seats by the looks of it because it's considered a category A game. I might ring Ticketek tomorrow and ask them if I can find a better seat.

I'm also wondering will your ticket work if you scanned it through gate 1 (Ponsford end), but your seat was located in gate 3 (olympic stand) for instance? If this is the case then it makes this whole situation much more easier for my mate and I.

On Anzac day, there was an announcement that you had to enter via the gate listed on your ticket. I'm not sure if that will be the case on Friday, know it doesn't matter at Etihad but MCG is a different set up.

I think it matters if you're attempting to enter the MCC or AFL Members area but the public areas I'd assume would be fine to enter in, but no one has been able to confirm if it is or not.

ANZAC Day is an unusual fixture in terms of ticketing due to it's enormity and large crowd size annually, whereas this is a regular Home and Away match (granted it's considered a big match) but I wouldn't expect it to be any more than 80,000 surely.

They changed it 2 or 3 years ago Jezza.
Cannot scan in at any gate anymore, must scan at gate printed on ticket, regardless whether they're expecting 80,000 or 40,000.........

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/anger-over-late-ticket-change-for-tonights-mcg-blockbuster-between-carlton-and-collingwood/story-fni5f22o-1226903686651

Quote:
THE AFL’s variable ticketing system has been called into question after a last-minute release of tickets to tonight’s MCG blockbuster.

It means members who paid extra to secure seats to the Carlton-Collingwood showdown could have walked in for free.

According to the AFL website, the A-Reserve status of the highly anticipated match also appears to have been changed without notice.

The decision late this afternoon means fans can now scan their membership to claim thousands of unsold seats still available on level four.

It is a repeat of a similar debacle that angered fans ahead of the Hawthorn-Geelong blockbuster in round five.

The AFL is yet to respond to inquiries from the Herald Sun.

“The AFL knows exactly what it is doing,” Collingwood supporter Joffa Corfe said.

“There are a lot of p---ed off football fans this afternoon.

“The AFL is taking us for fools. Members, who in good faith, paid more money to secure tickets during the week, are the ones getting ripped off.

“This variable ticketing system does not work.’’

This is so true. All week I was looking for a ticket in the Ponsford end and they only came out on Thursday after being 'sold out' before that. Absolutely ridiculous!

"A reserve" game that only attracted 68,000 odd supporters.

If that doesn't shake things up, what will?

The club holds onto tickets in the Ponsford for new members.

They're trying to keep the Ponny as Collingwood as possible.

I think when it gets closer to the game, unsold seats are given back to be sold to the public.

It's a complicated system.

Unfortunately if we really care about where we sit, we have to get reserved seat memberships now. I don't like it either but that's where we are at.

I bought seats to this game ages ago and all that was available was top deck. Then suddenly this week seats were available on Level 1.
