Some had him in the best half dozen or so last week, hopefully he keeps it up.

46. Jonathon Marsh
Statistics: 11 kicks, 10 marks, 11 handballs, 22 disposals, 0 clearances, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s, 1 tackle Dale Tapping Says: Developing as a key defender. He has come along really, really well. He is finding the balance of when to defend and when to attack. That’s the growth area for him.

My father gets to most of the VFL games and Marsh is one player that he really enthuses about. You have to love it when a project player starts to show the potential that got them recruited. And it appears that the coaching staff are doing everything to encourage his footballing ability. Playing in the backline was brought through necessity as much as anything but it certainly seems to be helping his development.

I hope they give him a run in the seniors before the season is out. Just as a bit of motivation, and reward for effort. even if it is just as the Sub.

I was there and I reckon he was better than Brown and Faz.

Contested marks in the backline one on one were great and hes quick!

Normally we'd expect a listed player to be amongst the best in the VFL, but considering how raw he is and the fact he's being played out of position it's very promising.

I loved his u18 highlights package (pretty much all I've seen of him) and was surprised he didn't go much earlier in the draft, he's super fast with massive potential, reckon a few clubs are going to spew about this kid.

At times down back he looked like the Forward instead of the Defender

FWIW, this is what I thought of his game (from a post just after it in the VFL match thread):

I think I know his dad. If so his dad is a giant and an excellent fellow. I hope it works out well for Jonathan and the Pies.

After seeing those draft video highlights I believe everyone was really impressed. Especially with "the don't argues".

I see the coaches are doing a number of things with him so he can "learn" the game.

I believe with his extreme pace he should also learn how to be a tagger and/or run with role. He definitely will have no issue keeping up with the quick mids and best of all, he can quickly learn how to read and play the game as these gun mids will naturally lead him to the action/ball.

I believe he should learn to play as a mid where all the action is and with his pace, x-factor and height, it would be exciting.

In the interim, happy for him to learn the defensive side of his game for now.

There's times in VFL games where I get confused between Mooney and Marsh, that says a little bit about how well Marsh is going now (seeing as Mooney has been with us much longer).

Some of his highlights this year have been "Mooney like", he has absolutely stunning pace, we are talking Mooney or Cyril like pace here.

His weaknesses come in terms of actual football skills, his kicking is inconsistent and so is his thought process when around the play.

That's what playing him in defense makes perfect sense, it's a great area to learn how to read the play yet still be able to show some attacking flair at times.

How far he goes really is unlimited, he could be a very unique player in AFL terms, not unlike a Koutifides type player with his athleticism.

Would be a fantastic winger/half forward if we could develop him there. Possesses speed that would make Cale Hooker straight up quit chasing after his first pace. His 193 cm would fit the bill perfectly
