...only the teams to be decided.

Personally I don't like it. Can you seriously imagine daring to play sport on Ramadam in Dubai, Saudi Arabia or even Malaysia?

Can't we have one religious holiday that is shown some respect by Australian atheists. Evil or Very Mad

No. Why should we leave it as a holiday? Perfectly sensible to play. It's not a holiday anyway, lot's of sport going on all over the world, including Australia.

And you want to be more like theocratic countries without basic freedoms? Tell me more about your Utopia.

I am not overly religious, and I haven't been to church in years, and I do love footy, but I really liked the idea of just one day, one day, without footy, or anything big on. Just a quiet time of reflection, a pause in our hectic lives, to relax, and smell the roses. a laid back day, family day, is not to much to ask, its just a greed and avarice move by the League, pure and simple.

I'm torn. I respect our christian heritage, but then again I also respect our society's heritage from the Ancient Greeks, to the Romans to the Saxons and I don't feel the need to set aside any days for them either. If people want to ignore the football on Good Friday then nothing is forcing anyone to go along or even watch on TV.

Doubt it'll be any concern of ours anyway, and without two of Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton/Richmond the fixture is just going to be another game that most people do no more than check the score.

Great idea, about frigging time. Religious people don't need to go or watch it.

Yeah, OK Jack, I promise we won't play AFL games for premiership points on Christmas day. OK? Razz

Really a joke that this wasn't done decades ago. As 'reforms' go, however, better late than never.

About bloody time

most of us have to miss out on football because the league caters exclusively to a pagan festival worshiped by a cultural minority. Why pander to their wishes at the expense of everyone else, let's have no football on Buddha day or during Ramadan as well!

Carlton v North Melbourne it will be in Melbourne at the MCG. I expect Sydney v Someone at the SCG as well as a game in SA, Brisbane and Perth as it should be. NRL is played on the day and it doesn't kill the day as those who push the Religious angle know. It's going to happen and it's about time. For those against it, too bad.

AS long as we aren't playing on the day that's fine.

No more marquee matches for us than we already have please, they come on a Monday or a Friday or mid week and give you short breaks all around that period.

Zero issue.
This is Australia, not Saudi Arabia, so religion shouldn't interfere in non religious matters. So just relax and let's get on with life. If you are religious and you don't want to attend or watch on tv, then don't.
Play footy, cause it's footy season. Pure and simple.

Good point by Robbo on 360 tonight. Why have a freaking presser announcing it's going to happen, but have absolutely zero information about who will participate, when the decision will be made etc.

They must seriously be trying their hardest to come up with another news story that will ultimately fail to take attention away from the drug cheats.

Good. There's plenty of footy free days in the year, I never saw the point in having one relatively early in the season. Who needs respite from footy in April?

The fun is going to be watching it start with at least one 'charity' side and then seeing how long it takes to dump that stupid idea and go for blockbuster status with two big teams.

I give it two years max.
