Post subject: The Captain's Pick | |
|
Talking to my brother last night about the game and he said he didn't
blame Bux for our current situation. Sheeted the blame on the captain's pick by Eddie. Which got me thinking.... how was Bux appointed, what was the process, did Eddie discuss this with anyone? Also, has this happened at other Clubs when the President gets his way over the normal selection process. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Its a good question. But its the wrong question. the better question is whether you think it would require a change of presidency to get a change of coach? _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

As I have stated before.
I like the US model where the President gets only 8 years maximum.
At 2009 when the decision was made Eddie was already a President
for about a decade. A new President would never ever make a Captain's
Pick early in his tenure.
Only a person who was extremely comfortable in his position would make such a pick.
Which is another reason why Presidents for life is bad policy.
And yes I know he gets voted on by the members every now and then.
But my point still stands. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Doesn't seem like there're any high profile Collingwood people out there willing to issue a challenge. |

Well keep tracking south and some will emerge.
And I don't want a high profile person , I just want a good administrator
who keeps his public mouth shut! _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Unfortunately someone like that would probably lose to Eddie because the majority would just vote for the famous person. Unless of course, as you say, we keep tracking South, then maybe people will be fed up enough to want change. |

Bux wanted to do a assistant coaching role after he did his 2 years on media street and AIS coaching courses in 08 and 09. Kangaroos were into him about being their senior coach so Eddie and the board came up with the Malthouse contingency plan as they felt Mick was getting old. Mick was having some health problems at the time and probably felt another 2 years would see him out. But after winning a flag things changed and probably hurt the team more than most realise (still take the flag though). Decision was driven by Eddie but the board would have to agree to it like all clubs. There would have been a process with Buckley like any other coach goes through just he was the only candidate. See that as you will. _________________ Utter B@stards |

I think it's common knowledge we didn't follow due diligence, but I doubt any other suitable candidate would've been able to match Buckleys interview skills, he certainly is an impressive individual but that's probably a minus for an AFL coach, most of the great coaches are stark raving mad! Which is why I reckon Aker would make a great coach, sadly he'll never get the chance. _________________ Defender...........

Thanks for the background info.
But only one candidate reminds me of elections in Communist countries!
And yes, they have Presidents for life. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I personally don't fully blame Buckley for yesterday. 20-30 points yes, 90+ then the players have to take the bulk of it.
Unfortunately this kind of loss is a coach killer. Though being our first real big blow up, you can let it slide... once.
Next two weeks will be telling.
Although, I'd give Bucks next year and see what happens. If we go backwards again or no improvement on this year, then good bye.
Next question is, what's improvement? ladder, skills, ability? I don't know. But I had high opes last year and this... make the 8 as a pass year.
But I've been saying for years, if this Buckley experiment fails, then Eddie has to go also. But I have no idea who would want to do it. |

Jackcass is a bureaucrat ... he could do it.
What about DTM he is a passionate young person.
What about Defender. ... he would shake things up.

^ As somebody who works for a rival manufacture, it's just 'the centre' to me :p ahaha.
I heard for a while Craig Kelley wanted to do it. But things have seemed to sour on him a bit? Has he pulled out or cooled off on it or something? _________________ Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey, we want some Bayley! |

The deal in 2009 look like a great one at the time and arguably helped us win a flag in 2010.
Not reneging on the deal after the flag win by keeping Malthouse on for another couple of years has arguably cost us a flag or 2. |
