Nonsense. Utter nonsense. Stop reading the Bolt cool-aid, it makes your teeth rot and you risk destroying your last remaining braincells if you haven't already.
Quote: | In the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday, Justice Lucy McCallum ordered a verdict for Mr Newhouse and said News Corp was to pay his legal costs. |
Which part of that didn't you understand?
The court not only found against Bolt/Murdoch but found the case so compelling that she also ordered Murdoch/Bolt to pay for the other side's lawyers as well as their own. Generally, costs are only awarded when the case is not just proved, but where in the view of the court the losing side was unreasonable or otherwise especially at fault. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Yes it was settled. The sentence you forgot to include was "it was settled in the defamed's favour." _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

No, costs generally follow the event. So, in the ordinary course, the mere fact of success will result in the unsuccessful party being ordered to pay the successful party's costs. I think what you have in mind is the concept of "indemnity costs", where a party is ordered to pay, speaking loosely, more or less the whole of the other party's costs. That doesn't appear to have occurred in this case. |

Did you read the immediate next sentence?
Quote: | The terms of the order - agreed to by both parties - requires the article to be taken down from News Corp's various online sites. Other terms of the settlement are confidential. |

I didn't have any emotional engagement with the story, I merely read the article posted that said they settled. |

Yes, the justice did say they had agreed to remove the articles. These were the nub of the matter. It was the articles where Bolt allegedly defamed Newhouse. No article no defamation. Therein likes realization that it is a win for Newhouse & another loss for Bolt albeit in the form of a settlement.
Nothing remarkable about that. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |
