Footy is a pretty simple game that gets confused!!

1. So over the last 4 weeks the umpire throws up the ball. Witts (round 1) or Grundy (rounds 2-4) only tap the ball first 40% of the time.

2. 60% of the time their Ruckmen taps it first invariably to their midfield and when we do in fact tap it 40% of the time, we tap it to their midfield.

3. With midfield and stoppage clearances going the oppositions way, we find our backline are subsequently beaten and copious holes create increased scoring opportunities for them.

4. When they do miss a subsequent shot for goal and score a behind, we "raffle off the indignity" of having to kick the ball back in. With prop stop, indecision and a lack of finesse, we then let:

* Langdon
* Marley
* Goldsack
* Sinclair

bomb the ball to a 1 Pie player vs 3 of them and proceed to see the ball kicked over the goal umpires head for a James Brayshaw "maximum".

5. As fans we place our collective heads in our hands, pining for some sort of structure and process.

What would I know though:

* Only that if we go down the path of under 22 years old Rucks with 50/less matches maybe the appointment of a credentialed Ruck coach with our $$ millions may actually be where it starts!!

Erm, we actually won the clearances on Sunday (36-31), and I'm fairly sure we one them last week as well.

On footy being a simple game: not any more. It's more team oriented than ever and requires players to be working together for the team to be successful. It's exactly why you see quality teams like Freo, like Port, Richmond and yes the Pies struggle when the team plans are not quite clicking.
