Don't expect to see Jamie Elliott in the first half of the season............

Article

"Pies not ruling Elliott out yet"

COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley remains confident injured forward Jamie Elliott can still play a meaningful role in the first half of the AFL season, despite having no timeline on a return date.

Elliott, who has been battling the nagging back complaint pars defect, is set to resume running tomorrow, but admitted himself this week he was unsure of when he would play again.

Buckley said the club was taking a long-term view on the 23-year-old’s welfare, saying it was prepared to give him as much time required to recover and undergo the conditioning required to allow him to resume pain-free.

“It is far too early (to say when Elliott will play again),” Buckley said. “We want him up, but I don’t have fears for the whole year.”

“What he has got is (a) structural (issue). It is a fundamental part of his makeup. It is not at the end of the chain, it is his back, so it impacts quite a bit.

“If he had done enough conditioning, he could have played with the pain this week, but the welfare of the individual means you want to give him the best chance of having a full career, and not burning him out in six weeks is half of our battle.

Really? Neil Balme initially said it was "probably a short term injury" with "Elliott just needing a month off to get himself right, but he won't play round one".

I'm sick of the injuries

take those injury reports with a grain of salt.
it's a back problem. they're not short term things.

Where does it say it'll be 12 weeks?

The key word in what Balme said was "probably" not "certainly" not "is" but "probably" a short term injury. Still don't mean 12 weeks, who knows what it will be but Balme used the word, as you said "probably" so it was assumed it was a short term injury, no one appears to have said it was a short term injury.

Actually dtm he'll probably grow out of it. I'm not sure if it's a defect (that you're probably born with and becomes a problem when you're in your late teen years) or a stress fracture, but experience with fast bowlers tells us that they're problematic in their early twenties but settle down when they're 24 or 25 years old. So I don't think it'll ruin his career, but he'll likely have to manage it for a year or two.

Just based on a feeling, but I have a bad feeling that Jamie Elliott will be the Ben Reid of 2016.

I hope I'm wrong.

I don't care if he has to take the the entire season off as long as we get him back to full fitness, he's to valuable a commodity to **** around with short term fixes.

^Yeah, but you're not involved in a sport tug-of-war with a baseball-loving partner whose embrace of footy the sport falls short of her (desired) embrace of Jamie the player Mad Smile

It's worth googling "pars defect", unless you are a back specialist and already know about these things.

Oh crap

He's going to have to learn to play a new way, say goodbye to the spekkys.

His speed and ball sense, and straight shooting still make him a worthwhile fix, take the time, get his core strength up, see you next year buddy.
