Believe the push to Collingwood Netball and AFL womens team is admirable and when it occurs I will watch telecasts and follow both--but as a Pie supporter who as a kid and teen saw 53 and 58 flags then endured the long 32yr wait followed by another 20 want more emphises on what we are An AFL footy club aiming for flag 16 and more _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I stand to be corrected but I very much doubt that Collingwood's push for a Netball Team and a Women's AFL Team will have much impact on their major goal of winning more AFL flags. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. I am not a great believer in this.
JW said on another thread that it was all about community.
And that Collingwood was ahead of the pack when it came to community involvement.
it is hard to argue against this as it is like arguing against motherhood.
Questions that could be asked.
How much did we pay for this franchise.
Is there a business plan
Will it distract certain personnel from their main duties
What happens if there is some sort of scandal (drugs etc...)
Will sharing of the facilities impact us in any way, shape or form.
What is the case for us trying to move outside of our traditional role.
Does it have an impact on our constitution
There are probably many many questions that could be asked.
I am not totally against this, just very unsure of what is the point of it all.
Trying to make us the biggest sporting club is not what I think is in our best interest. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I do worry sometimes that the boards, Presidents and CEOs of footy clubs, can become distracted by trying to build an empire for themselves, rather than concentrate on winning Premierships.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the CFC having more community engagement, but ultimately, I don't care much for what this does for our 'Brand'. Collingwood should not be a brand. We are a football club steeped in a proud working class tradition, but one which has seriously under-performed over the past 50 years. Let's concentrate on winning games, and (hopefully soon) winning flags. |

RB, do you honestly believe that Collingwood would not concentrate on winning games and winning flags as their major goal because they are becoming the cutting edge of total club management? Especially as Eddie is the Chairman? I may well and truly be on another planet according some (or most!) here but I fair dinkum don’t think this will ever happen imo. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Lazza they may be concentrating on the main game 99% of the time but it is the 1% that I am worried about. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

The topic also begs the question.
Are we the biggest club in Australia?
I have thought for a while that we are slipping in influence and size.
I just wonder are we living in the past and believing in our own propaganda. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

The more I think about it, the more I don't like this concept.
We are the Collingwood Football Club; not the Collingwood Sports Club and certainly not the Collingwood Community Club.
All very well to do things for "the community" such as those Christmas lunches they do and certain initiatives to help out here or there - but to try and claim to be a community club is a bit rich.
Sunshine YCW, Preston RSL, Maribyrnong Park, Craigieburn, Albion, Deer Park, etc, etc, etc - are community clubs. _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.

No, Melbourne Victory is the biggest club in Australia. |

You are mostly pointing out the negatives on this. But fail to see the opportunities.
Remember we have a cap on the footy department now.
With professional afl women's and netball, we have an opportunity to distribute shared sporting coaching and sport science. Such as high performance, recovery, injury prevention, injury recovery, strength and fitness, wellbeing etc etc. |

no one is claiming to be a "community club". one of the club's values is "community" which i believe has been incorrectly interpreted as such.
i don't see anything wrong with what the club is wanting to achieve even though i may not necessarily apportion any discretionary income to the other ventures. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |
