Another great game today down back. Just to show last week wasn't a fluke. Really warming to his style and is carving up his own niche down back. Can always be relied upon as a swingman as well, as per Reid as a forward or back. Not good news for Goldy though I'm afraid. Howe has overtaken him in the pecking order.

I love Goldy, and I think he might be back next week for Tooves. But Howe has been wonderful these last few weeks. Composure, drive, disposal, and aerial ability. A fanstastic pick up.

I said elsewhere that he, Reid, and Frost are the core of a September backline, and that has underpinned our recovery these past few weeks. .

His ball use out of defense has been good, but it's his ability to use his leap to make a contest against greater numbers that has been huge for us over the last 2-3 weeks. Prevented a number of goals.

And he is great doing the kick ins. A very classy player, and one who shows more grunt than he displayed at the Dees.

He's been great the last few weeks. And to think some here were rubbishing him after just a couple of games. It just goes to show you should always hold your fire before you make judgements on players who are new to the club.

As much as he wanted a swotch to the forward line and Bucks said he'd do It, there is clear evidence that this bloke thrives in the back line as an attacking defender.

Yeah, he was fantastic, on the ground as well as in the air. Plus, his delivery up the ground was excellent.

Also, not related to this thread (apologies), but thought Greenwood was very impressive. Not only did he keep the Bont quiet, but he did some really positive work in attack.

Interesting what Rudeboy said about Howe showing more grunt than he
displayed at Dee's
Rekon same applies to Varcoe --he never eemed to display that at the Cats

And whilst talking displaying grunt White is starting too

Its amazing how a big marking backmen will get a team out of trouble quickly, something that we have struggled with without Reid. All we need now is a big running skilful backmen (like wood) and the backline will be our strength, this coupled with first use of the ball in the middle will see us catapult to the top 4.....NO DOUBT.

Took us a while to work out his best spot, but in the end defence is where he should stay permanently. I know we recruited him as a forward and he left Melbourne partially due to his frustration of playing in defence but he easily plays his best football down there.

He's also handy up forward if the need arises but defence should be his position by default. A great recruit who's really settled into the side nicely after a few weeks of uncertainty initially.

He has turned out to be a great pick-up. A few Dees supporters I know mentioned they were glad he had gone - but he is providing a lot more that Lumumba and will be around for longer.

I agree his added aggression to his athletic style and marking has him above Goldy as the swingman now!

I actually don't think we have. We knew he could play defense so no great surprise there. I think he'll get what he wants and eventually settle on a wing.

^ tend to agree. wasn't playing in defence a bugbear of his when at the dees? one thing i have really liked is that he tips in.
