Former Western Bulldog Matthew Boyd joins Collingwood's coaching panel
Collingwood's overhaul of their coaching structure around Nathan Buckley has advanced with retired Western Bulldogs champion Matthew Boyd joining the Magpies.
Boyd is the first new appointment to the Magpies' coaching panel, joining a revamped development program which was identified to have been under-resourced and to have under-performed this year.
Boyd will be a development coach along with Brad Gotch and Jared Rivers, operating under Tarkyn Lockyer as the head of development.
With assistant coach Scott Burns having already chosen to move to join Alastair Clarkson's coaching panel at Hawthorn, the Magpies are poised to make at least one and probably two more assistant coaching appointments.
Matthew Boyd has joined Collingwood's coaching panel in a development role.
Football director Geoff Walsh, whose review of the football department recommended the reappointment of Buckley as senior coach within a restructured football department, had said the club would also closely consider a director of coaching or strategy role at the club.
It is uncertain whether they will pursue that type of role this year but more appointments are expected.
The 35-year-old Boyd retired at the end of the season and spoke with several clubs about a coaching role. The three-time All-Australian played 292 games and captained the Bulldogs from 2011 to 2013. He also won three club best-and-fairest awards. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. I would have preferred Luke Hodge, but Boyd seems to be a quality appointment nonetheless. |

Fresh out of the game and seems a decent guy both on and off the field.
Got the most out of himself without being a super star.
Hopefully can work closely with our defenders and form a tight knit group.
I think this will be ideal for guys like Langdon Scharenberg Crisp especially |

All the appointments are not yet completed so I wouldn't rule him out RB. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine! |

IF this guy coaches as well as he played, it's a huge win for us.
He was a super player, played in a number of positions ( later in his career ) and really embraced the team first ethic. He and Murphy have long been considered the glue to the dogs list over the years.
Now watch this space for Crows assistant, David Teague. |

I'm more worried that Lockyer is our head of development.
I thought he had been demoted.
Blakey, Tudor or B. McCartney as examples would be far more experienced and better options IMO. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

James Kelly was lauded as a big cog in Bombers surge up the ladder
He apparently took young defence and at training and match day plotted
their play
