Teaser Quote: | Gene Madgen wasn’t going to let his son get ahead of himself. “He was quick to tell me that Buddy only got one goal on him,” Gene said. “I said, ‘yeah but he hit the post three times. He led you a merry dance!’”
However Gene added that he knew Jack would make the most of his opportunity at the Pies, since he well knew his son’s dedication. Gene said Jack’s American partner, Heidi Nichols, who has studied exercise science, had also pushed Jack to ensure he got the best out of himself.
In fact Madgen isn’t the only Pie Nichols has been keeping an eye on. The couple share a house in Richmond with Collingwood youngsters Jaidyn Stephenson and Kayle Kirby, with the club encouragement and blessing. Nichols and Madgen living downstairs, the kids upstairs. Collingwood had wanted Nichols and Madgen to help Stephenson and Kirby settle into life away from home. That includes helping with cooking and nutrition, and reminding the youngsters to put away their dishes. Madgen described Stephenson as a “food bogan”, with plain tastes, but says Kirby is a bit more of a connoisseur. |
