they are:

2019 disgrace should be replayed
2017 disgrace just about as bad as this year
2015 to one way traffic hawks won to easy
2014 freo didn't show up
2009 bad luck saints
2000 over rated bombers won that one dees didn't show up
1997 crows say no more

my favourites are:

1990
2010

outside of pies flags are:

I liked:

2016 year of the dog stopped hawks getting 4 straight flags
2005 or 2006 the year leo barry marked it for the swans
2004 the year power stopped Brisbane getting 4 straight flags
2001 Brisbane winning their first v Essendon

the rest were average but liveable

I can not go through another flag for Richmond in 2020 that will be a night mare

I wish they would not win another one for a while yet say give us 5 years break at least.

Nothing will ever ever ever ever, erase the utter horror of 1970 GF for me, I was a teen then, but it still haunts me. 44 points up at half time, and we still blew it, I wept an ocean of tears that night. sigh.

It's a year before your starting point but the best game I have ever seen was the last VFL GF, in 89.

I have to agree, that was a great GF to watch from a spectator/neutral point of view.
I know my cousin who is mad Hawthorn actually pissed his pants (he was around 13yo) then...

2009 – the closest result in a grand final in, I think, 70 years, our two drawn ones aside? – was a non-event? Wow. Ah well, each to their own...

Good idea, let’s take it off the Tigers for being the best team in the comp by a country mile.

Tht was indeed the beginning of the horror run. 1977 was a massive missed opportunity - we could have gone from wooden spoon to premiers and built a culture of great success. 1979 was ugly and then 1980 onward just cemented the Collywobble culture. I feel like 1990 was an abberation and 2010, although dominant, we were lucky. 2011 still pains me.

It's tough being an older Pies supporter....

Umm the VFL was the AFL of that time, not the VFL as it is now, in case you cannot fathom common sense. Rolling Eyes My post is perfectly valid for this thread, otherwise you don't count all our flags won prior to 1990. Got it ???? Confused

90 nice is quite correct. The first AFL premiership was decided in 1990.

Well if we are being pedantic, Carlton effectively won the first AFL premiership in 1987, which was the first year of the expanded comp with WCE and Bears; really, the VFL should have been renamed the AFL as of that season.

Why not in 1982 when the Swans moved up to their terrible city? Or, if we want to go further, Geelong is practically interstate... Wink
