Personally i didn’t really notice any real difference without a crowd. When you’re watching on tv you’re watching the game, not the people in the crowd.

Hope it continues, something worth watching at least once a week when stuck at home because everything else is cancelled

Post subject: Collingwood staff member tests positive for COVID-19Reply with quote

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/03/21/collingwood-staff-member-tests-positive-for-covid-19/

Quote:
A Collingwood staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

The club has released a statement saying that the person has been home in quarantine and has not had contact with the playing group.

Read the statement below:

A Collingwood staff member who was recently overseas has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

In accordance with government protocols, the staff member has been in isolation since returning to Australia. He is recovering at home and being monitored by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Due to quarantine requirements, the staff member has at no point been in any contact with players or staff members at Collingwood since returning and has therefore presented no transmission risk to the club.

The staff member will not return to the Holden Centre until medically cleared to do so.

Ed just confirmed a club staff member has it. Came home from OS and self isolated and now has tested positive. No contact with the footy department.
It’s a matter of time...

Over 60s to stay away, AFL season not under threat after Collingwood staffer tests positive

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/positive-test-for-collingwood-staff-member-20200321-p54ciq.html

"The AFL has advised clubs, "where possible'', to keep any person over the age of 60 from attending club premises or games during the coronavirus crisis as they tighten protocols to protect individuals within the industry and the game.

The measure would apply to several senior administrators in the game such as Geelong's Brian Cook and Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett who are over 60 years of age.
...

In the memo the AFL has told clubs that players should be in groups no larger than six at training when there is "close contact" and has asked that players shower, with soap, for a minimum of five minutes before and after training sessions."

That’s an issue in the USA too with complaints that rich NBA players are getting preference. I read in the New York Times that testing the Utah players used up 20% of Oklahoma’s test kits.

'Essendon chief executive Xavier Campbell said on Saturday that multiple Bombers players had been tested for COVID-19 in the lead up to round one with Devon Smith and Shaun McKernan returning negative results in recent weeks.

He said anyone that had shown symptoms had been tested.

"There was a handful, clearly none of them have tested positive," he said on SEN.

"Where symptoms were even remotely within the parameters of what people were thinking would be for the virus [they went and saw a doctor]. People are being clearly cautious but, certainly for us, we haven’t had anyone [test positive]."'

Soft cap to be significantly reduced as clubs begin cost cutting

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/soft-cap-to-be-significantly-reduced-as-clubs-begin-cost-cutting-20200321-p54ciw.html

"Clubs are uncertain of the size of the cut the AFL will demand but some believe it will be as much as 30 per cent, a move that will mean either massive salary cuts for staff or a cut back in staffing numbers.
...

Clubs bosses were told on Friday to expect "a significant reduction" in the soft cap this year after already being told last Monday to start finding cost reductions worth $5 million.

Brisbane Lions director Leigh Matthews said on 3AW that the $5 million figure was the starting point as clubs waited for further direction from the AFL as to what was required to respond to the fast moving environment.
...

West Coast have told recruiters to take annual leave while clubs and the AFL have already informed several casual staff members that there is no work available, with Essendon confirming in an email to members that casual membership staff were not required.
...

More powerful clubs such as Collingwood have told staff in briefings their aim is to retain them while making cuts across the board to ride out the storm."

You can protect yourself from coronavirus if you put on a Blues jumper. Apparently prevents you from catching anything.

"... IBIS World's senior industry analyst Tom Youl said clubs entering the season financially vulnerable would need AFL backing to continue.
...

"If revenue goes down even 20 per cent, which is probably unders if the season is cancelled, even with an above-average growth rate it takes five years to get back to where you were," Mr Youl said."

I just heard all non essential travel in Australia will now be banned, ive heard this could mean the end of the AFL season, and NRL, no more footy at all, no interstate games etc.

Is this correct, anyone heard ?? Surprised

Yep here's what SFM (Scotty From Marketing) said today - can't see too many more game being played for a while

"What we are saying is non-essential travel should be avoided and particularly when we're talking about interstate travel and longer distances, the sort of travel that would not be normally part of your normal life.

"Going to the shops is something you have to do, get into work, other important tasks you have on a daily basis you have to do.

"I think Australians can exercise their common sense about things they know are not essential.

"We will give you as many rules as we can and as many guidelines but we need you to think carefully about what you are doing and your behaviour and the impact it has on others.

"So it does mean that those holidays that you may have been planning to take interstate over the school holidays, cancel them.

"That is what it means. It is regrettable and I know the impact it will have many people in those communities where those holidays were going to take place.

"These decisions are not taken lightly and for those who are arguing for extreme measures all over the country, we would only take further measures based on medical advice because, at the same time that we are trying to protect lives, we are also trying to protect the livelihoods of Australians and that means acting on medical advice and ensuring that we remain totally in lockstep on the incremental changes we're regrettably enforcing.

"It is the case that that travel needs to be reduced to stop the spread of the virus across the country. Other states will be making other decisions about this issue and they will make further announcements today and I will leave them to make them."
