Callum Brown recently turned 22 years old, has now played nearly 50 games and shows pace and agility with ball in hand. However he CANNOT kick over 35 meters. No exaggeration, no mayonnaise, no hyperbole.

Those more learned with the art of kicking are welcome to chip in with their thoughts. Mason's inability to make the distance late in the 2018 Grand Final still gives me nightmares. A trait that has followed Mason ever since.

So, can players do more leg weights, improve their run up, finesse their rhythm and in Callum's case find that extra 10 meters? His contemporary Daicos has gone past him this year with skills and depth on both feet despite being the same height.

In the absence of any improvement, Callum may simply have peaked. Hopefully not.

his technique looks OK, perhaps timing is an issue
core strength and flexibility will help
if you look at the long kickers, they have a big follow through ie their toes are well above their heads

If you put some weights on it a few times a week it might look bigger, but isn't effectively bigger. Might need to go the surgery option...

Every physical attribute of the game has evolved except kicking. Players these days don't seem to kick any further than players from the 80s and 90s.

In 1912 the world highjump record was 2m. From then until 1993 it was broken 39 times at the average rate of 1.8cm each time. Since 1993 it has stood unchanged at 2.45m for the last 27 years. The record holder in 1912 was 1.8m tall. The current record holder is 1.93m, meaning in over a century, the relative increase was 32cm or 16%

From this one might infer that physical development and technique will peak at some point, and then that's it

I have for a long time raised the kicking quality and earlier suggested my choice of precision delivery namely Barry Price be short distance player to player instructor

Sav has the close to perfect goal kicking style and effective as well yet he has never found his way to Holden Center as goal and distance tutor —has he been considered by club and has he refused if approached

does anyone remember 'Moneyball' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tzin1DgexlE
Take a look at Chad Bradford - about 2:50 in. He's the pitcher with the unorthodox action.
I sometimes think that people get caught up with the aesthetics. Sav's action is great to look at but does it matter?
...just a thought...

Do the footy boots come into question. Today they are almost like sports running shoes with molded soles. Would the harder leather of the older style boot have helped with distance?

Don't see many players unloading with the monster torpedoes these days. Must be too hard to perfect.

Can any Collingwood players kick 50 anymore?

Think it was Elliot failing to make the distance from 45 the other week.

It’s amazing to thing when most things improve, kicking has gone backwards. Our 2002 team would kill this team in kicking skills and distance.

I'm more thinking how great it would to have a Ben Johnson or Ryan Lonie streaming through the middle
