I actually thought he showed a bit. I expect him to be better this week. |

Maybe not totally trashed but the comments on p1 are hardly endorsing.
I understand they’re only opinions but you gotta put he’s debut into context. He had Moore & Keane for backup.
Dave’s comment is ridiculous. |

He looks more ready than Henry.
Give him at least another week.
How did Bradman go in his first test? (Clue:he didn't make a ton). |

As I said on page 1, I thought he did alright in trying circumstances, and would certainly give him another week....what would be the point in dropping him at this stage? _________________ "You hate a mean man, a grasping man, a man who wants everything and gives nothing. The second being that with injuries to some of the very few experienced players on the list we have to play them
It’s a road not of their choosing and we must accept that a first gamer will be at odds with instant success
Two players introduced who had solid grounding and a season of competitive footy are performing well. Poulter & McCreery are they |
Collingwood have last week, the least amount of players on their injury list that have played AFL other than Melbourne, STKilda & Sydney.
The reason for young players playing AFL that are not ready is a combination of poor player development at the club and allowing players to be traded for non football reasons in the off season. |

Saying a player doesn't appear ready for this level is not trashing a player...... Based on what i saw, he wont beneift from many games at AFL level this year. It was good to blood him so that he knows how much more work he has to do.
And yes, there is a small chance that it was just first game nerves and he will show more in game 2. That is certainly possible.
I'm all for putting games into a player if it is good for them. Putting games into McReery and Poulter seems like a no brainer. They will benefit from 5-6 game bursts followed by a few weeks to recharge the tank (remember they need a few pre-seasons before they can handle the rigor of a full AFL season)
For players like McRae, Wilson and Henry, i think its about giving them a small taste and hope they go back and work their butts off.
I think in time, he might be a good one. But he needs time and deserves time.
contrast this to Sier and C Brown, who have both had time and proven that despite having some very attractive skills at the elite level, are simply not AFL calibre players. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

WILSON
The 24-year-old was signed to the Pies as a Category B Rookie in 2019.
Initially played as a MEDIUM DEFENDER
Currently 24 years old
Height 194cm
Weight 86kg
Background
A talented junior athlete, Wilson chose to pursue a career in basketball at age 16 and went on to represent his country in the Under 17 and Under 19 FIBA World Championships as well as join the Australian Boomers team.
Wilson spent time playing basketball in the United States and Serbia before returning to Australia as a guard with the Sydney Kings.
His stats from last saturday.
Tom Wilson (16 disposals @ 81%, 381 metres gained, 3 contested possessions, 13 uncontested possessions, 11 kicks, 5 handballs, 5 marks, 4 score involvements, 6 Inside 50s & 1 goal)
He showed something last saturday playing as a high forward.
I liked the way he moved.
Keep playing him. |

Thought he played a solid game and deserves to hold his spot.
He’s a blank canvas right now, so he needs a block of games in the seniors and then he either holds his spot for a bit longer or he goes back and hones his craft in the VFL. He’s a bit vanilla but 194cm and super fit is a good start to carving out more game time in the seniors. |

There's definitely some talent there with Wilson. I hope he finds a position and makes it his. Thought as a third tall defender may be the go or as a defensive forward.
My only worry for him is his kicking. I saw him shank a kick in the VFL under no pressure then I saw it a couple more times since.
Accurate field kicking is key but there's heaps to like about the lad and as time goes by with more game time his confidence and belief will grow....so here's hoping. _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

When I have watched him at the lower level, his kicking has been good. |

As a third tall forward he reminds me a bit of Tim Membrey of St Kilda and that's how we should play him, with Mihocek and Kreuger as our two main tall forwards. Personally I don't think it works playing Cox or Cameron as the other tall forward. Both to me are ruckmen who should play around the ground to help out Grundy. With discussion of how poor our forward line was on the weekend, people miss the point that Wilson was playing his first game there and WCE have one of the best backlines in the league. A forward line consisting of Mihocek, Kreuger, Wilson or Johnson, McCreery, Ginnivan, De Goey and Elliot is more than capable of kicking a winning score against any opposition in the competition. |
