I didn’t want to hijack the Suburban Grounds thread, but looking back on all of the grounds I have been to…

Victoria Park was ours, it it wasn’t a great venue…

The G is great when full…

I still think the Gabba is the best venue for football (or cricket)

It’s hard, nothing beats 90,000+ at the G for both footy and cricket.

I remember going to G as a youngster to watch cricket against Pakistan in the 60s and you could hear the sound of the ball on willow beneath the stand when the main game got boring. Sound echoes a lot when not a lot there. But, get 70 thou or more there and it is a wonderful venue.

I’ve never been to the GABBA, but you hear a lot of bad stories about it being so outdated. Obviously that will change by the time the Olympics come around, but it’s supposed to be a lot of work to do.

The MCG has huge contrast between the Shane Warne Stand and the rest of the stadium. But that’s supposed to be next on the agenda.

I used to hate Colonial and it’s still shit to get to, but it’s a more comfortable game day experience.

Outdated it is, but it is perfectly built so that you get great views of the ground.

My parents always talked about a home and away game in 1956 against Melbourne at the G, where squillions of people were there and there are photos of people sitting on top of the Southern Stand.

Was the Great Southern Stand built and completed in 1992?

So it's due for an upgrade sometime soon.

Might be thinking of 1958 where 99,256 attended the game against Melbourne, which is a H&A record.

The next highest H&A crowd in history is Anzac Day 1995 (94,825).

Yes, in preparation for the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

It will likely undergo redevelopment within the next decade.

You can't beat a big crowd at the MCG.

Optus is a pretty spiffy ground. It was really good when we played (and beat) the Cats there... was it, last season, or 2020? No half wit wiggle fans.

GWS's ground has pretty impressive facilities. The hot dog selection and food in general, was top quality.
I particularly liked the open windows over the urinals so you could still watch the game whilst having a slash.

Been to the GABBA a few times, nothing special in my book.

Yep back in 2020 we played Geelong at Optus and won!

Waverley Park was my favourite ground!

Shame it's still not around to have AFL matches been played there.

I guess the real issue with Waverley Park was the public transport getting to the venue. The closest train station is either Glen Waverley or Dandenong train line.

Don’t know where you are getting your info from but I’ve been to MCG, GABBA, AAMI park, Docklands .. no real difference. Round concrete mountains, with poor food and expensive beer.
