Apple have advised me that my Nick’s password has been compromised.
Is Nick’s aware of a data breach and if so, please provide detail to members.
If unaware, may want to look into it.
Members could consider changing passwords too.

This is not some nervous reaction to the Optus thing, but rather in response to a genuine message from Apple on my Mac.
Not meaning to be alarmist, just passing it on.

I think you will find that the password you use on Nick's has been subject to a data breach elsewhere - that is, its the same as the password you use on another site, and that site has been hacked.

That being said, regularly updating passwords is a fine idea.

As above. You should use unique passwords for every account. Best to use a password manager.

Remember, there are many breaches over time at major and minor companies, hence as WPW and Haff say, use a pw manager to maintain complex and different passwords for different accounts, and to change them periodically. Some of these involve massive companies a large percentage of people are likely to have an account with.

Pretty much all accounts are tied to an email address (or a mobile number), so you can monitor your email addresses on a site like Have I been Pwned, which collates hack dumps (Apple would use a similar DB on users' behalf):

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Wikipedia entry providing background on the site:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_I_Been_Pwned%3F

This Reddit discussion might be helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/cybersecurity/comments/mo3d6s/i_found_my_email_in_haveibeenpwnedcom_what_should/

Mainstream paid services like Norton provide these tools if you're wary of using random utilities out there on the web.

Use two-factor authentication whenever it is provided:

Clearly the people that hacked into the Optus network also went after Nick's invaluable database...

I hope they don't dig up some of those old embarrassing posts from teenage years.

Hackers now know
- who supported recruiting Chad Morrison
- who was in favour of drafting Luke Shackleton
- that a link between Ben Sinclair and certain photos of Nathan Buckley was established
- which posters supported Trav Cloke's contract delay and holding the club to ransom but are fiercely against Grundy's contract delay and holding the club to ransom
- 3rd Degree's special affinity for Corey Gault
- the whereabout's of Leggie's left nut

it's a shocking development

If some accounts got hacked we might get something more sensible to read or not to read at all.

Just saying, Mike you could accidentally leave that backdoor open just a bit.
