Post subject: Nonsensical or Possible? | |

I have this dream of Nick Daicos winning the Brownlow medal in his debut AFL season. I presume this has never happened before. How incredibly awesome would that be? That would be one of the highlights of my life đ¤ _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy âUnceasing Wavesâ like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. Brad Hardie won a Brownlow in his VFL debut season.
Aged just 16, he made his senior debut for South Fremantle under Mal Brown, and the next season booted three goals from a forward pocket in the 1980 WAFL Grand Final triumph.
Courted by several VFL clubs, the back pocket rocket joined a different breed of Bulldogs and stunned the competition by claiming the Brownlow Medal following his first season at Footscray in 1985.
John Todd won a Sandover (and club B & F and Premiership) in his debut WAFL season as a 17 year old in 1955. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

It might be unlikely, but certainly not impossible. I have a feeling he'll be getting votes in the double digits at least. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." â Julian Assange |

And ultimately ended up at his third club, Collingwood, in 1992.
One of our hobbies was recruiting dud Brownlow Medalists at 10 year intervals... _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Hardy was a quality, old skool footballer who hit the wall as the VFL/AFL entered the professional era.
Daicos on the other hand is 100% pro. Unless he endures the injuries his old man suffered, many Copelands, Brownlows, and GF appearances await him đ¤ |

Looking at records going back only two players have taken Charlie home in their maiden season
The great Hayden Bunton and Brad Hardie
Now Iâm not saying for a minute that Nick Daicos would but Iâd be interested to know the highest number of Brownlow votes for any first year player in the medals history _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Haydn Bunton got 26 votes in his first season when he won the Brownlow, which I'm guessing is the all-time record. Otherwise, Graham Moss came second with 25 in 1973 as a mature-age recruit, and Brad Hardie received 22 in the year he won it. Since then, Nathan Buckley received 14 votes in his first season with Brisbane in 1993 and Danny Southern received 12 in 1994.
Over the last couple of decades, the best first-year performance I'm aware of is Matt Rowell in 2020, who received 9 Brownlow votes in just 4 full matches before getting injured, while Mark McGough received 8 in his first season, 2002. There may have been others, but looking at the various Rising Star winners at least, I haven't been able to find anyone who managed double figures in recent times. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." â Julian Assange |

As much as I would love to see this, and I believe he will pool very well, maybe top 3 to 5, I would love to see the same young lad, kick the winning goal in the granny and take home Norm. |
