Ned Guy has to go.
He seems ill equipped to manage a clubs list, and all evidence points to the fact that his player management background is a far bigger liability than it is an asset.
Having started his career on the players side of players contracts and negotiating more for players, it seems he has bought that mentality into his current role, ensuring the players get the best deal possible rather than having to make tough decisions and have difficult discussions to sign them for less and in the best interests of the club.

Here’s just some of the reported Long term / High dollar deals signed since Ned Guy joined the club in 2017...

Mason Cox 4yrs @ $550k Estimate
Dayne Beams 4yrs @ $750k Estimate
Tom Langdon 3yrs @ $600k Estimate
Tom Phillips 2yrs @ $500k Estimate
Adam Treloar 6yrs @$900k Estimate
Brody Grundy 7yrs @ $1mil Estimate
Darcy Moore 2yrs @ $900k Estimate

It’s glaringly obvious Ned’s not cut out to make deals in the best interests of an AFL club. He’s a player manager, and a good one at that.
It’s time the club let him know that’s where he’s best suited, and then thank him for his service and send him on his way.

Agree. He’s a very cluey operator, just the wrong person to be put into charge of list management. Just as an example, it was obvious to most people observing the team that Reid and Varcoe were finished at the end of last year, but allowed to play out a final year. Soft decisions like that are good for morale but hurt the team longer term. He’s a genuine guy who needs another role at Collingwood.

All in all just another bad decision by the club.

If he's retained or if indeed he's replaced, make sure they know how to use Microsft Excel.

It is totally unfair and disrespectful to read such negative commentary about Ned Guy. None of us know how/why contracts are agreed. We are all viewing the outcomes from a position of total ignorance.

I had a bit to do with Ned a few years ago when he began as a player manager, and I must say I was always impressed by his total professionalism. The fact is, our tight salary cap was an issue BEFORE Ned Guy was appointed to our club.

Maybe he'll prove to be no good in his role, or he may prove to be excellent. However, one thing is for certain, none of us know what cards he has been dealt with to do his job. Unless there's been a total f%ck up, I'd say his performance should only be judged over a 3 yr period, where he has the opportunity to shape our total player cap.

I agree with you about his professionalism. However you live and die by what you achieve and so far it's not looking good for him.

Do you mean like the 3 year period I’m literally using to judge his performance on? 🤦‍♂️

Just a question about the chain of accountability within the club - who does the list manager report to? The football manager? And then Who do they report to?

I'm pretty sure the list manager reports to the Head of Football, who in turn reports to the CEO, who ultimately reports to Eddie and the board.

I am right, he joined in 2017. Why would I have included deals he made with players at the end of 2017 in the deals he presided over if he hadn’t joined the club in 2017?

This is his 4th trade period.
2017 (new in the role), 2018, 2019, 2020
