At this stage it seems more likely than not that it will be Port Adelaide, but there are still four different possibilities of course.

We shouldn’t be scared of anyone, and looking at that list all seem pretty manageable. At this stage we’ll most likely have to get past Brisbane and Port in some order if we’re to win the flag, so I think I’d prefer the possibly slightly easier hitout against Port and then throw everything at Brisbane (our biggest bogey team this year) in the GF. But interested in what others think!

Just realised that if it ends up being the Giants, that would be a near-exact replica of 2019. No thank you! Laughing

Does anyone know yet if this will be a Friday night or Saturday game?

Friday night

Voted Brisbane, get them out of the way in the prelim. Do a Geelong 2007, tough hard slog in prelim then thump Port on grand final day.

I can’t handle another Brisbane grand final.

Yeah, I thought of that. Ew.

Still, could see it as a chance to heal some of those 2002–2003 scars?

It should be, given we finished top. But it would mean that there would have to be a 6 day break at some stage for the 4 potential opponents to move from their Saturday schedule to a Friday schedule. So don't be surprised if the AFL screws us over and makes us play the Sat prelim. Not quite fair, but a possibility...

I doubt it, top qualifier is us. But yeah AFL logic!

Fly's 50th birthday. I pity whoever the opposition is. The boys will turn one on for him. But I'll take Port at the MCG in the Prelim.
For the GF Brisbane, we need redemption!

^ yep, well remember collingwood were none too happy in 2018 when we played richmond off a 6 day break, because we played our qf on a saturday. so the precedent is set. But given interstate sides are involved I bet they will play the "unfair to travel off a 6 day break" card to lobby the afl...

I cant see how this game is going to be on the Friday given it will definitely mean the opposition only has a 6 day break meaning finishing on top means diddly squat ?

Someone has to get a six-day break at some stage. It's not the end of the world. But surely there's no chance we don't play our prelim on the Friday night.

By the way, the higher-finishing qualifying final winner has played their preliminary final on the Friday night for 15 of the past 16 seasons. The exception was 2012 when first-placed Hawthorn played a Saturday twilight game while third-placed Sydney played us on the Friday night for some reason – not precisely sure why that was the case that year, but those with better memories than me might recall why. So I think we're pretty safe to assume that we'll be playing Friday night.
