^ lots of them have a social conscience, TP.
It's just that this is too often equated with working for some "worthy" (read: Leftish) organization for money, rather than (i) working hard for any reputable employer or starting a reputable business ; (ii) raising a responsible family ; (iii) acting with thoughtful integrity in all things, and (iv) actually sacrificing personal time or money to care for those who really need it, rather than just grandstanding about it.
For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not suggesting your daughter doesn't do those things. I am just reflecting on the shallow, superficial way the young (and we, as a society at large) conceives of "social conscience" nowadays.

I had to google Captain America - I thought you were talking about the Donald!stui magpie wrote:Captain America won't cut it. There is some merit in that but really the boomers need to start putting the environment and the planet before profits and dividends otherwise......

Steady on, Winston. (Funnily enough, this is the same thing all my Marxist acquaintances are saying at the moment...)stui magpie wrote:Captain America won't cut it. Great to see 19th-century rural American evangelicalism and fundamentalist European Catholicism harmonising as one on Trump's EU trip. Oh the tyranny of distance which has hitherto kept them apart.Pies4shaw wrote:We'll all be fine, provided we deal with the Triple Threat Destroying Western Civilization - terrorism, bureaucracy and the erosion of tradition.

Crikey! I just read about that speech. Encroaching forces from the south and east, indeed!Pies4shaw wrote:We'll all be fine, provided we deal with the Triple Threat Destroying Western Civilization - terrorism, bureaucracy and the erosion of tradition.

Society can kiss my arse today. A couple of members of our society decided to cut the fence of the block next door, and steal our car trailer, complete with spare wheels last night. Smart society, cut the last panel from our house, and took it the opposite way, away from our cameras! Will check the neighbours later.
And the vultures looking for a ridiculous price on the things we are selling for my BIL's widow, all already at very reasonable prices. Hubby actually went to the doc last night, he never goes, feeling off, blood pressure a little high, but I don't need a doc to tell me he's simply broken hearted, trying to put his beloved brother to rest. Hopefully we can sell everything tomorrow, and start to heal. And the trailer thieves? &%%& you, may karma bring you nothing but pain until that trailer becomes rust.
Meanwhile, the sun is out, its cold, but it's out. And we live to fight another day! Jus drein, Jus daun!

nah, its only insured if its at our workshop - thats where it usually lives! hubby used it to transport some things for for sale and he hadnt taken it back yet. its a custom job and its pretty distinctive so we will keep an eye out. we bought it 2nd hand, it owes us about $2000 but its more the feeling of invasion! When we got the cameras i suggested buying 2 more to hook into the system, now im just going to order them!David wrote:Oh crap, sorry to hear that. hope you can get that back, or at least be compensated for it.
good wakeup call, we have had more expensive stuff stored there before. but i still wish them bad Karma!!

geez, that shows some planning. Cutting the fence isn't just a random act, someone has scoped that out and planned it, including noting where the cameras were.think positive wrote:Society can kiss my arse today. Yeah I know, just before we went away I told hubby I'd seen someone taking too much interest, but I was upstairs and didn't get the plate. We had a caravan in there st the time. At least they didn't damage our ranger or Ian's truck, try took what they wanted and that was it
