Kicks both feet. Smooth mover and a bottom ager.
Just chose footy over cricket. Great athlete.
Very pleased with this pick.
Please explain to me what a bottom ager is.
Just means it's ( predominantly ) his first year in the TAC.
I see a bit of the Dragons but I didn't see much of him because of Brighton Grammar APS commitments. I posted on here in another thread that he kicked 7 on Brander in an APS game early in the season.
That's when his stocks rose and the queries started coming for Brander ( pick 13 ) Clubs don't usually pick first year TAC players, so I can understand why he went late but he is steal.
Dare I say it, maybe just a touch of ........ Jimmy Clenent about him.

I think the Australian cricket team need him more than we do at the moment. Nonetheless, welcome to the pies Nathan Murphy.

Absolute bloody steal.

Twomey had him going at 16 in the draft.

Anderson had him at 22. Cherny at 19.

But bugger them little old swoop saw something in that 3 minute highlight reel (LOL) that reminded him dare I say it of James Hird.

Not sure what it was exactly but he just looks like he's a second ahead of others around him when he's got the ball like a Hird and when he goes for a mark he does it with confidence that he'll take it and courage.

I'm excited by his potential.
He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD!

Absolutely with you, swoop. We swapped notes about him a week ago.
He really does seem to see the game unfold quicker than those around him.
He reads the play so well, he can play at either end of the ground.
He's also a young one, so he may yet have a growth spurt ahead of him.
We can only dream. It will be interesting if it's revealed tomorrow who was the youngest player in the draft. He would be a chance ( Brown is young too )

Hmmm, like the look of this young bloke. Really good disposal by foot and good overhead mark.

From the highlights reel he seems to make good and very quick decisions. Moves the ballon quickly and hits the targets well - even in traffic.

Good vision too - the options he picks often looks like a 'second' choice (harder to pinpoint) but in a better position than the obvious choice
I think therefore I think - I think

From his highlights he reminds me of Bob Murphy. I wonder which position he'll end up filling? We're stacked with flankers.

Maybe that's why we passed on Joel Garner.

Cheers A P
Murphy was born 15 / 12 and Brown 9/12, so Murphy has just been pipped.
Stephenson was born 15 / 1, so you can see in some instances where Brown and Murphy are almost a year behind some of those picked.
Also Murphy had so many APS commitments with both cricket and footy, that he really didn't spend much time in the TAC system. His upside should be considerable.
I couldn't believe he fell through to pick 39 and neither can a number of people. Just makes me wonder if clubs know something the " arm chair " experts don't.

Highlights reel looks good. A one touch player who appears to make quick decisions. Hine said they were considering him at 6 so we mighta got a bargain here.

If BA is correct, then we can think of Stephenson as being equivalent to our pick 39, which eases the pressure surrounding his selection a lot.

The two also ran the same 2km time at the Combine.

Fate seems to have made them interchangeable.
