Gibbons goal shouldn't have been, from the vision I saw.

Surely this some kind of laugh at Collingwood's expense post 1979.

Was at that sunday game in 1986, and remember it plain as day; I was 16 y/o.
That after match kick of the footy on the MCG was sadly my last one there.

But apparently that Banks hit on DRJ was a square up for an incident earlier in the game; we might never know, as I'm not sure it was in play...

Commentators mention it being a reprisal....he certainly went him like a nutter, so I'd imagine there was some previous context..actually looks like Banksy is already bleeding as he goes to belt him

Here's his explanation from a few years back:

Banks said Rhys-Jones split open his eye just moments before he struck back.

“I had handballed the ball and five seconds later he comes through and he splits my eye open,” Banks said. “He didn’t need to do it.

“Then he dropped the mark and if he hadn’t dropped the mark, it wouldn’t have happened. He turned around and I retaliated and got three weeks for it. I got him pretty flush.

“You would probably get about eight or 10 (weeks) now. He was a great bloke off the field. But he sniped a lot. He was a great player who probably didn’t need to do it.

“But they (opponents) all wanted to hit him on the field.”
