Did you read the date in the video?

But I do look forward to a massive increase in NDIS funding this year after all Shortens comments over the years in opposition, not that their attacks on the Liberal government and welfare payments have seen any increase there, all talk and no action from the AnAl Labor Government

Quite right DTM.

One of the issues and the legacy of the Coalition federal government was their ideological commitment to privatization of bloody everything in human services. The costs are unaffordable in many respects.

This can be remedied by:

Finding going to NGO’s and Government run services. In this way “Allied Health” staff such as OT’s, psychologists and the like are salaried not private. This in one fell swoop will reduce costs and serve as a basis to improve service delivery. There is also a scale of economy which can cross subsidise services internally within an organisation when services are funded.

Additionally there needs to be means tested eligibility. Drawing a line under those who can afford to pay do so. The issue here is where to draw the line.

Take all mental health out of NDIS funding. Currently across Australia there is a cost shifting going on from State to Federal where people with ongoing needs are being discharged from State run services (acute) to NDIS services (ongoing non acute) however there are some people with very complex needs being provided a service by people ill-prepared & not really able to deal those needs.

Mental Health in the community started screwing up when Tony Abbott’s cuts to primary health and community based services was cut to the bone (totally defunded) many years ago. We’re seeing across Australia the results of those cuts.

There then needs to be separate funding for Mental Health across the board some of which has started to occur.

Bill Shorten is reviewing 10 years of incompetence and there won’t be easy answers. They’ll need 2 terms to change the way NDIS is managed.

Ultimately we all need to be paying more tax one way or another.

I worked for DHS disability services during the time the NDIS process was discussed, debated and brain stormed for problems with delivery well before the “baby” was born, and how it was going to work in hypothetical scenarios. It was quickly evident they were simply going through the motions and not serious about major concerns and problematic issues expressed, especially by experienced workers. So it is not surprising at all that problems are now not only surfacing but seriously impacting on NDIS clients and service providers. Early incompetence leads to practice stuff ups.

The medical profession can not be trusted when there is a huge pool of money available. Over-servicing and medical benefits fraud are systemic problems of Medicare. Add to that fraud perpetuated on NDIS both by providers and people.

Has Labor ever met a tax it doesn't like? Does anything ever cost less under Labor?

A tax is levied to meet public expenditure incurred by governments in the general interest of the nation, so the answer to both questions is no.

I’m pretty sure the Liberals increased the Medicare levy( tax ) to help pay for the the NDIS.Perhaps you forgot all about that?

my hearing aides are fully funded, im about 70 percent deaf, and apparently should have had them since childhood.

i wont go into the bullying and shit ive had to take due to this disability, but its been a lifelong thing. getting them has changed my life dramatically, i didnt even realise how many down days i was having. im naturally an always look on the bright side personality.

i felt guilty when NDIS was suggested, said i would not qualify, and ill just take the cheapies thanks. She said no, its not means tested, i was shocked. i still didnt want extras aside from the aides. i was so embarrassed when i met with NDIS but they were amazing. i was again told i should have had them supplied free since childhood. dont feel guilty, you pay tax, you more than qualify. i still feel guilty but man, id be lost without them now! i was given a plan for 2 years, it includes a few extras, and the specialist ordered me a tv thing and a rogering device, plus i wanted a spare charger, which i offered to pay for. ndis also want me to see an occupational therapist, but i dont feel the need to, and if i lose that part of the package next time so be it. im a bit shocked that so much is allocated to a service that pays the bills, its madness, surely it would be cheaper for the NDIS to employ someone directly.

can i afford them? yes i can, but putting aside $7k for something that might not work would have been a no no for me, im not wired that way. for my kids yes, for me, no. i still feel guilty, however God knows we have paid more than enough tax over the years, money that has supported others, while i have struggled for 59 years with a disability i had no idea was so bad. that might be hard to understand but this is my normal. im not used to hearing gravel crunch under my feet, or the rain sounding like its about to smash the roof in, so many things i had no idea made noises. And i have paid retail for 3 different kinds, all just made things louder, no matter how many different set ups were programmed by the specialists, the technology now is amazing!

i have said many times people ripping the system make me so mad. they still do. I will use of my package what i need, no more. and im so very grateful for it. means testing is an interesting concept, but it can be about more than money. cheers

Thanks for your insight into the NDIS Think Positive. That was so interesting to read,I’m so glad that you got your hearing aid from them and that they’ve treated you so well.It must be wonderful to hear all those things that you mentioned for the very first time. It’s just a shame as you said that you didn’t get this help when you were so much younger..It would have made such a difference to your life back then when you needed that help so much.
