Power window switch in the XR6 broke about a month ago. I figured out it was the switch after some Google diagnostics, the window would go down but not up, most of the time.

Called an autoelec, he was going to order in the switch ($190) and call me when it was in. After a couple of weeks I called him Monday and asked what was up?

"Shit, I forgot" he said. So he ordered it there and then, called me today at 2pm, I drove straight over, took him 3 minutes to put the new one in because I'd already done the work to take the door skin off. (thank you Youtube) It was just sitting there. All he had to do was lift the skin off, replace the switch and sit the door skin back on. I'll put all the screws back in on the weekend or whenever.

Didn't charge me for labour, just cost for the part and delivery. :D

Speaking on what makes me happy, I've put into practice a few things to break out of a bit of a depressive spell. The Israel-Hamas thing was the last straw, so I decided to do more of the things that really interest me to get some zip back, and to purposely ignore a lot of news.

Just reading for pleasure at night has made a big difference the following day.

^Funny you mention him, because I listened to the Aussie Crawl song "Errol" today!

I read non-fiction, mostly cognitive science, philosophy of mind, economics, anthropology, etc. The difference when reading that stuff for pleasure is I just read what I want, with no reference to politics, work, study, current issues, etc., flicking through academic and popular articles, and clicking through endless Wikipedia links.

Boring for others I'm sure, but it really relaxes me. I think that's because I get lost in it and forget about everything, including the time.

Driving up to Toc this morning i got a phone call from a number I didn't recognise. I thought I recognised the voice but the call cut out. When I got up, I checked my email and it had been a Recruiting Manager from one of the large recruitment/consultancy firms I had worked with a few years back. She was checking in to see if I was back working or looking for work.

I replied to the email and said no Thanks, I'm happily retired, but it is nice to be remembered and thought of.

So, in 2020 I entered my first photography competition, the Australian photographer of the year awards! Go big or go home! Just 1 pic, taken during lockdown near Altona pier I called isolation. I got a commended award which is top 75 in the landscape category. This year I entered again, 3 shots of yellow tailed black cockatoos fighting over a walnut in our tree, into the animal and nature category, and today I found out I got highly commended, 1 level up from last time, top 50! So wrapped. It was the first weekend I shot with the mirrorless R6mkii! Go me!
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!
