McStay helped get us there last year with his two goals a game and the occasional bail out pack mark. Now we have NOTHING. Unless Fly and Co. invent some small ball masterclass we won’t make the 8. Probably be 0-4 or 0-5 before we even realise the season has started.

But yeah, I was happily binging in 2023 premiership content for the better part of 5 months. Trust the AFL to cut our celebrations short by a few weeks and ruin our 2024 campaign with a horribly rough and early start draw. GWS get to play North and WCE the next fortnight. That’s fair .
Good point about the early start to the season. As reigning premiers we would have had the shortest off season in the history of the game, and it really shows,

Yep, bitterly disappointing performance.
Our mindset is not switched on...the electric movement, with split second tap ons to advantage, magical handballs...all were absent today. Swans intercepting tonight made us look second rate. We just werent able to anticipate the next second in the chain...why not?
I hate to say it, but looks like during the preseason we assumed that the ability to thread together massive ball movement chains was just ingrained DNA, and did not have to be refined and further improved.
I disagree with those who think we have been "worked out". That is an assertion totally lacking evidence.
Our execution of last year's skills was pathetic: impossible to know that we have been "worked out".
Rather, we have been exposed as entering the season completely unprepared, and this is indeed very worrying.

Schultz can have some games to get used to our system.
MaCrae hopefully will carry on with pre season form, same for McInnes when he comes in.
Cameron good
Cox better this week.
Moore needs support.
Howe wont play worse than tonight.
Maynard great.
Crisp is there abouts.
Quaynor not as strong as last year
I would drop the passengers if we play like this next time.
AJ plays well when everyone around him plays well.
De Goey needs to pull his finger out.

Take nothing away from Swanettes silky skills though..they are lethal by foot.

Awful. Skill errors across the park. Tackles that didn’t stick. Loose men for Sydney everywhere.

Ash back to the VFL. Reef to come in.

Kick up the arse for everybody. Too much talking, not enough doing.

What happened to our demonic tackling? Our frantic running both ways? Our running in packs? Our precision passing and hand balling? Our delivery inside 50?

Cannot blame Dean or Moore when there are so many quality entries inside defence

Cannot blame Johnston, Mihocek and the resting ruckman when the ball is kicked in to a contest every time

Other teams have learned to apply pressure on whoever has the ball but last year we won by out running and out pressuring them

Heaps of room for improvement in this team

Negatives. Back line skill errors gave away too many goals.
I don't think Schultz was any positive news.
We need a big bodied player in the forward line not another midget.
Ginni would have been a better option, as he is 7cm taller than Schultz

Finn has to start. Make Beau the sub. He never does enough across 4 quarters anyway.

Early days. But lack of quality talls is a major problem and was always going to hurt us.

We have lost 5 of our last 7 home and away matches, and many of our wins last year were very close. Not surprised to lose unless we are going 100 percent

Coach dropped Noble who at least showed he wanted to be out there. Hopefully Fly doesn’t repeat that mistake again.

[Cannot blame Johnston, Mihocek and the resting ruckman when the ball is kicked in to a contest every time]

Can blame Johnson and Mihocek when they are the only two Collingwood players inside the 50 and both fly for the same mark.
Dunno if Johnson is a "project player" or not but so far he has done nothing to give me any faith in him. Takes the odd speccie but drops what he should take all the time.

Anyone know why Lipinski gets a game. He'll never get injured because he's very careful to keep himself out of harm's way, and by "harm" I mean getting injured by actually going in and getting the ball. No wonder Beveridge was happy to see him go. Like Ginnivan, he's one of the luckiest players ever to get a premiership medal.

There are a few I'd let go before McCreery. I thought he was in our top 5 tonight.

Big test now for Fly.
He is a Premiership coach, and therefore a CFC legend.
His methodology, in collaboration with the psychology (Jacki Louder) won us the flag.
Now, the pendulum has swung to the lowest point.
How does he react?
How do the assistant coaches react?
And how does our team react?
This is now a massive inflection point.
I actually dont think it is a question fundamentally of dropping player A for player B.
It is fundamentally a question of whether this team can recapture the drive and the desire that animated them last year.
