VFL Round 7
Pies vs Northen Bullants (away)
Saturday 11 May @ 2.05pm. Venue Genis Steel Oval (aka Preston City oval) Preston
Match centre:
https://www.afl.com.au/vfl/matches/6361
Livestream via VFL website or AFL app
Ladder: Pies 15th (2 wins, 4 losses 94.9%) Bullants 20th (0 wins, 5 losses, 46.8%)
This will not be an easy game.
Based on the ladder expected to win but the Coburg game showed what can happen if the team is not switched on from the start. And like Coburg, this will be the Bullants grand final.
With injuries in the AFL, there will be at least 2-3 players either selected to play on Sunday or held over as emergencies.
Jaith is out injured (minor grade syndesmosis - 2-3 weeks) so expect the team will be predominately VFL listed players.

Saturday VFL game before a Sunday AFL match where we’ve got a lot of outs and injury worries. A few of the extended bench could be held over to the AFL game.
This could be our strongest VFL listed team for a while with only AJ, Begg, Krueger and Ryan as starters pending any new or repeat Krueger injuries.

As expected, a mainly VFL listed team for this Sumday.
Only AFL listed are Demattia, Kreuger, Ryan, Dean, Begg & Johnson.
And they will not line up as below.
Although having Kreuger in the backline could be a secret weapon - he could injure his opponent rather than himself

HB: C. MacDonald 74, C. Dean 43, W. Parker 45

5 minute mark of the last quarter Ryan Sparkes intercepts a short kick at CHF and kicks trully from 50m to push the VFL Pies out to a 29point lead in a low scoring game (Pies 6.12.48. Bullants then kick 6 goals in 12 minutes and lead by a goal.
Poor umpiring, very one sided to the bullants but the VFL pies play has been worse.
Charlie Dean has done well at FB however to repel 5 or 6 other deep forays, Parker a great tackle to save another, but everything else has been poor. Bad kicks to outnumbered contests. No real system or composure or much at all otherwise. VFL pies have managed to lose from nowhere against a bottom team. A very disappointing result

I’ve only watched 60 mins in total of last two games but week in, week out, Charlie Dean continues to win a lot of ball for a key defender. This week he had 27 touches and also took 14 marks which would normally suggest a total domination of his position ( assuming he played at fullback )
From the outside, my first impression is that after every opposition behind kicked, he’s just dropping off to any unguarded turf inside D50 and marking the kick-in uncontested ( which would obviously inflate anyones stats )
Has anyone watched enough to explain how he’s putting those numbers on the board, particularly in recent weeks
