Fred = the great unknown …except this
He is only 24 , hence not yet fully at mid career
He is 196 hence 6’4”+ in the old format ….and he is strongly built
He is a powerful type of competitor ….ie …no onlooker , no fringe dweller , he thrives on the contest
He has a powerful left foot
He can take a mark
There are queries , of course , ….we need to see him in action , injuries have plagued his progress
Being based on the SurfCoast and surrounded by Cats fans , I am aware of their disappointment at his departure …why ? Many saw him as a promising future forward with both Tomahawk and Cameron years older .
Let’s give the kid a chance and full support

The Good , The Bad and the Ultra Ugly ….as long as they hold their marks, kick straight and never stop trying-the Magpie Selectors need to give them consideration .

Good to see Kreuger getting his chance. I think Reef can consider himself a bit stiffed to miss out. Maybe they wanted him to have a run in the VFL before his return I hope.

Will Freddie Kreuger start at FF?
If not who else will play there, it would have to be a small.
Not Lipinski, his role is as a link player, not a FF.
Schultz kicked a few goals from there last week so he's the candidate.

It's now more about Daniher and MND than it is about Queen / King's birthday
True, MND is awful, for sure and I have donated , bought two beanies. BUT, it has become very much Melb Deeees centric, all bout the Deeees, all this "do it for Neil " stuff, we are looked upon as spoil sports of Neils day, bias just drips from many of the commentators, against the Maggies.Sorry that is my opinion. I truly hope we can scramble victory in this match, I hope Freddie tears smokin May, to shreds. Go Freddie , GO Woods. !!

Given the multitude of injuries, I don’t mind the balance of this team ( as opposed to the quality ) It’s got versatility and a bit of physical presence with Krueger as a forward and Frampton likely floating around at stages.
Hoskin - Elliot is a good in and the spine of Melbourne is on a par with ours nothing special. If Krueger ( and possibly Frampton as a forward on occasions ) can at least compete and half most of their contests, I reckon we have enough scoring options at ground level.
Would love Krueger to get through this game and do enough to back up against North the following week. He deserves a break ( no pun intended )

If we gave up playing on King's Birthday, then what marquee slot do we replace it with? What'sinaname wrote:I wish we'd give up this game and let it be Melbourne v Essendon.

The club isn't going to give up a slot that draws in excess of potentially 80K and happens to fall on a public holiday. Essendon already have the Anzac Day slot (shared with us) and the Dreamtime fixture against Richmond. Why give them another marquee slot which means more money for them?
I can understand this sentiment when Melbourne were the home team every year but this was rightfully rectified in 2019. I don't think the push to abandon the fixture makes much commercial sense.

Interesting buildup to this fixture with both sides out of the 8, albeit for different reasons.
Our issues are largely personnel based because of injuries. Our system has held up well in the circumstances, but we're currently too reliant on Nick to get us over the line. Need others to step up and help him.
Melbourne's issues in contrast seem to be system/method based rather than personnel based as they have a relatively full squad outside of Lever.
Big ramifications for the winner who can firmly entrench themselves in the 8 after tomorrow. Let's hope we can produce the goods with North Melbourne to come before the bye.

If we can win this one, I expect we will go on to make the top 4.
Remember, in 3 weeks time we should get a swag of our best players available after overcoming their injuries. Some will say that we have a lot of hard games towards the end of the season. Of course that's true, but once we get back Pendles, JDG and Checkers back, we will be just about unstoppable imo. Then hopefully, towards the end of the season we can look forward to having Cox, Elliott and Mitchell available as well. And let's not forget just how good 'Smokin' Joe Richards was looking before he got injured.
I'm pumped and expect us to win a brutal game. As long as Freddie crashes the packs and helps bring the ball to ground, our forward line will be much improved. Also, WHE is a great mark and very clever player, who I'm sure will be given a roving commission all over our forward line.
