It may be a wise move at season's end to float Isaac as a potential trade option given our lack of elite draft picks in a bumper draft that runs deep. At 24 years of age and with 100 games under his belt, he along with our Captain, has been bereft of the 2023 form line. He was a confident, intercepting and streaming exit from defence player but in 2024, has become a fumbly, clanger-rich and turnover specialist with liability. I won't buy into the rumours of 6 weeks ago that purported to have Isaac disillusioned by events surrounding Ginnivan's departure however the simple question should be asked by those in the know: "is this as good as he is ever going to get"?

I am sure another club would offer a top 15 pick for him and with the amont of list holes and gaps about to surface, a gun top 15 Draft pick maybe a net gain. Just a thought Nicksters!

And then what would we do with our newly acquired 2024 first round draft pick after he has his first bad year at the club ?
There’s a myriad of reasons why a player can go from AA conversations in one year to a shadow of himself the following year but losing your ability overnight isn’t one of them. I think we easily forget just how dominating he was for us last year, so I would be reluctant to trade out anyone ( in this off season ) who is still young enough and good enough to be part of our next premiership tilt. He looked alright on the wing ( albeit he wasn’t there for the entire game ) against the Swans and given we have a number of general defenders coming through ( Ryan, Parker, Jaith, maybe Dimattia ) I would rather trial Quaynor in a new position in the off season than move him on so quickly. Sometimes just being allowed to focus on the footy as opposed to an opponent, is the best remedy for gaining your form back.

PS. there’s a million examples but here’s a 2024 standout. Just as well the Swans didn’t trade out Heeney after his poor ‘22 and ‘23 seasons. Fair to say the current leader of the 2024 coaches award found a way to turn his form around fairly dramatically.

Ah trading IQ is a no for me too.

Noble is a giveaway. You could trade out Markov, Frampton and Ryan if you needed to but you won’t get much in return but don’t fuss about these names.

The point is ‘what is the value of the trade’ for IQ or any other player. It could be McReery or Hill for arguments sake or even De Goey as in other threads. But what is the value we’d be trying to extract in future by releasing value now? How can we pay it forward by another description.

Whatever it is it would have to be better than a contested marking player about to hit his prime. Can’t imagine we’d replace that from the rest of our list, from an 18year old, drafter or a rookie.

The problem for mine is Tassie, there’s what 3 un compromised drafts left?

This one we have nothing.

We can go again next year and be a middle of the road side. My guess is 7-11 and then the cliff comes or we can be proactive, refresh the list now and get the best talent in before Tassie. Losing the first rounder for Schultz could be the disaster if we don’t find a way to get top tier talent in.

teams are no longer isolating him in defense so he can win those 1 on 1 contests he was so good at in '22 and '23.

the way the Collingwood system works, as soon as there is 1 weak link in the chain it puts everyone out... i still think Leppa etc need to work on that part of the game plan. to somehow still be able to hold up in defense when the midfield are getting beaten.

23 he was a gun, this year not so much. However many players have been down this year not just him
He has been out of form but his class remains

I'm not saying trade IQ or not trade IQ but to get into the first round of the draft this year we will have to give up someone good. Offering up reserves players or over 30s won't do it... We will have to say goodbye to someone we really don't want to...
