Reserves smashed as well

Post by jack_spain »

It's been a bad week to say the least. The Ressies have just been smashed by 56 points by Geelong. Doesn't say a lot for our depth at the moment, just when we need to make some changes.

Went to the game.....couldn't say anyone definitely stood out enough to go up to the seniors, although you would think there would be at least 1 or 2 changes for the next round.

Wasn't at the game myself. How is Dawes going at the minute? Is Toovey a lost cause?

Dawes ? not a good game....very few possessions and one of the few he had was a a kick he shanked out on the full from 30M out. From what I saw he will not get a game this year. Toovey .... cant say I even noticed he was playing.

Yeah. We seem to be better at hyping our young prospects (and maybe giving them a big head in the process) than developing them. Very sad.

Mate, this has been a problem down at Collingwood for years upon years. Rather than allow players to develop and prove themselves, players are given "champion" tags after only a couple games.

Perhaps the lack of success over the past 50 years has lead to this as people want to cling onto something that may give them hope in the future.

Have a look at the hype surrounding Dawes. The kid has barely shown a thing at VFL level and yet some have hyped him up saying that he will tear the competition apart etc etc. And this is all based on what exactly? The fact he is a big lad. The kid needs this year as a development year before even being considered for selection next season.

But, in all honesty. the VFL players don't really have such a high level to reach if they are using the AFL team as a benchmark.

geelong and hawthorn are the two top teams, at the moment, this season. Why are we at all surprised that we lose to them?

We can match it with them no doubt! Late in the third term we made a charge at them and at 3 quarter time we were within I think a kick or 2! But as per ususal we play catch up footy and get back within a goal or so then the opposistion steam away again!
