yeah, most defenders look crap when the balls been fired in low and hard, maxy isnt the first and wont be the last defender made to look silly by the oppositions skills.anyone questioning maxy's hardness and attack at the man and ball? skills stand up, not a-grade but good enough, kills a lot of contests by coming in third man, takes a lot of grabs in the back 50. oh yeah, hes the captian as well, i thought the maxwell argument was dead, proven certified, why jump on the captain of a team sitting 8-3? i realise people are fired up after games and we all just want to see the mighty magpies do us proud, just my opinion on maxy. go pies!

Wokko wrote:Maxwell is a flanker at best, at worst he's Jason Cloke mk II, a loose player in defence who can't take a KPF. It's not Maxwell's fault he can't play on Hall, it's whoever made the choice to put him there. We've got Reid and Presti in the side and also Leigh Brown, all of whom can take a gorilla forward, Maxwell should NEVER be on Hall or Jono Brown he's a FLANKER who can spoil very well, but he'll never cut it body on body with a gorilla.
Exactly. Why didn't Brown go onto Hall? Maxy cannot stand a KPF - end of story.

I don't usually harp on about the umpiring, because its pointless & doesn't achieve anything, but tonight, they were absolutely woeful. Kept them in the contest, we really could have been 10 goals up at three quarter time.

And on the last quarter, I think it was a combination of fatigue, going too defensive and the Dogs really throwing caution to the wind. They just went all out attack, which was the right thing to do. May as well lose by ten goals as six. We played into their hands by going defensive and having a number of brain fades when we had control of the ball.

great game leigh brown, always provides a contest, great to see him back in the team.
leave wood and dawes in the vfl till they toughen up
if that last quarter had have been any other quarter and we had come back and won by 10 points all the knockers would have been praising a great comeback.
we've beaten the bullies twice this year at etihad, thats awesome

We ran out of puff...Josh, Jolly and Brown couldnt run in the last quarter...Bally was pulling up as well.

The only thing that worried me was the stupid handball in the last quarter...not too defensive.

They couldnt change up the tempo of the game either.

This is going to be a game that we will learn from for sure.

Positives are Ben Reid and Leon Davis.....nice little touch.

Pendles best game for the year.

Swanny you are one gutsy little guy...you rock my world.

Just get through one more game, no injuries and then load up for the rest of the year.

Im happy!

That's a very good point you've made there. They don't lose too many there & we've done it twice in 11 rounds.

Jack is too young to remember Mike Brearley?
Gatting or Brearley, they were much the same. Both had more captaining than batting ability.
For those who don't know Mike Brearley was an upper class University Lecturer who got a gig for England cricket in the 70's purely on his so called leadership ability. Although he made some runs he never made a real impact on the English winning the series. In the case of Maxwell it is purely leadership vs ability
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

If Chamberlain umpires next week in the ones then Gieschen needs a hard one up him. At one stage I hought he was going to umpire the whole friggin game himself. A knobber of the highest order.
Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.

At the risk of turning this into a cricket forum:
Brearley beat a half baked Australian team 5-1 during the World Series Cricket split. He then took over the captaincy mid series from Botham, who was hopeless, a few years later. Botham then when berserk & won them the series.
He never made a test century. He was a very lucky dud.
The Maxy comparison is unfair. Maxy, for all his faults, is a better footballer, than Brearley was a cricketer.
